'18 GMC Sierra 2500HD

I just read an article that Truck Trend magazine named this truck the 2018 Pickup Truck of the Year. They compared it against a Ram 3500, Ram 1500, Ford F-150, Chevy Colorado, and a Toyota Tundra.

Of course it was not just a case of comparing towing and payload capacity as the Colorado would be no match for the RAM 3500 or the Sierra 2500. But it took all things into consideration.

I was somewhat surprised as I would have thought the F-150 would have gotten the nod because it is the newest generation of truck in the comparison group. And they didn't even have a F-250 in the test group.

The ratings were as follows: GMC=75.21; Colorado=72.82; Ram 1500=72.38; F-150=71.33; Ram 3500=69.8; and Tundra=65.49.

All good trucks! If I were buying a new truck today for a TV for my AS it would be a tough decision!

I see, take a Chevy 3/4 ton, compare it to a 1 ton, (3) 1/2 tons, and a compact, make sure it's a fair comparison right, and don't include a Ford?

I thought the combination of vehicles was a little strange also! I'm not quite sure what the point was they were trying to make but it was interesting reading nonetheless.

Yes indeed, it's an F250 6.2 gasser, got it a Latta, they've always done me right over there in Hanover, neighbor

These findings will be reversed soon seeing how Ford just announced coming out with new F-150s with a diesel engine pulling 11,000lbs. THAT should change the equation. Travel safe. jon

The new F150 diesel with 30 mpg and 11,000# towing will make the Nissan Titan XD and Ram EcoDiesel obsolete or cause them to increase towing capacity, payload, and fuel economy.

I have a 2016 F-150 with an 3.5 ECO Boost, it is rated to pull 11,400. Pulling isn't the problem it is stopping. We went from a 23 FB to a 30 FC and the F- 150 would pull the 30 FC @ 8 mpg, pulling the 23 FB we got 11 mpg. My issue was stopping and getting pushed around by big rigs.

I upgraded to a Pro Pride hitch and that stopped being pushed around but stopping was still an issue.

I purchased a used 3/4 ton Chevy and now I can stop

I have the same F150 you did and the major complaint I have about the truck is too soft of a suspension. We get a lot of bouncing (back to front) on rough roads and from the trailer moving up and down as well. Did you see this too?

I think it's about advertising and brand loyalty. They have to pick a different brand every year else advertisers will be pissed and readers will complain they are (fill in the brand) fanboys.

I bought a new 2016 GMC 2500 Denali Diesel to pull my 30' AS and it has been incredible so far, 25,000 miles. I compared it closely to the 3/4 ton Ford and Dodge. They are all nice trucks but I liked the styling and feel of the GMC best.
Pulling a travel trailer weighing about 7-8,000 pounds with a 2500 Diesel is a much better feeling than with any 1500 truck. Engine torque, truck frame stability, braking ability, fuel mileage, exhaust braking, hill decent assist, are definately better and very noticeable as compared to any 1500 gas truck. I'm not saying the 1500 gas truck won't do the job, just saying you will be pleasantly surprised by the 2500 diesel's towing abilities. You will have to pay for it, all those advantages don't come free.

11k for this truck is wishful thinking on Ford’s part. Here’s a comparison of the XD to half ton trucks with the same or close TWR.

As I understood it in the past, The award is given on various factors. One of them being innovation that year. The Duramax engine is about 90% new. That could have pushed it to the front.
I agree that the trucks listed are all good trucks. Pick one. You won't go wrong with your choice.

On 12/29, I took delivery of the 2018 Ram/Cummins 3500 that I had ordered on 11/1; for it I traded in my 2015 Ram/Cummins 2500 with 30K miles.

When I was researching 1-tons, I went to three local GMC dealers and test-drove the 2018 GMC 3500 Denali, which, I will readily admit, I really liked. Ultimately, I went back to the Ram dealer from whom I had bought the 2500, drove a 2018 Ram/Cummins 3500, and ordered one.

Why?

1. For reasons no GMC dealer could explain, GMC eliminated obtaining a 2018 3500 Denali in arctic white, which color I had had with my 2015 Ram and really liked. The GMC dealers wanted to sell me a 2018 Denali in black, which I think is quite handsome, but I would prefer white for visibility and safety, particularly up here in the NW, where we have a lot of overcast, dark, and rainy weather. Note: you could get a GMC in a marbleized ivory color for an extra $1K, but only on order, which they told me would be 3-4 months.

2. The GMC dealers would hardly negotiate. The worst of them was close to $20K more than the Ram dealer; the best was $7K more than the Ram dealer. $7K is $7K. I couldn't see the benefit of the extra $7K over the Ram.

3. Ram has a feature that I very much wish I had ordered but failed to do so with my 2500 --- Ramboxes on each side of the bed.

No other truck has anything like them, and I wanted to order them this time.

For me, the combination of white plus Ramboxes plus the excellent experience I had had with my 2015 Ram/Cummins and then $7K less than the GMC resulted in my ordering the 2018 Ram 3500. I hope it turns out to be everything I hope it will be. Wish me well.

Yes, we had the same issue. The Pro Pride hitch took care of 95% of that but it still didn't stop to my liking.

we pull 25 Flying cloud with this truck and Propride hitch. Like nothing behind us and the features of the vehicle are excellent Had 2 F250 hd and this vehicle has more braun and we get 14.3 miles towing.
