Zero - Snow - then BELOW ZERO

SW Missouri is really cold tonight. It's about 10 degrees right now. Temps will drop tonight to zero - oh yay - NOT. SNOW AGAIN TONIGHT & TOMORROW. Isn't there a temperature where it's too cold to snow???? We're there.

Just a bit ago I turned off the water for a second (duh, forgot). I decided to fill the teakettle and NO WATER. I immediately opened all the faucets - had water in the bathroom - so I left it on and we went outside to see if the dogs had knocked out the plug for the heat tape. The heat tape was fine - the line was warm - but the water line had started to freeze just behind the kitchen faucet. Within a couple seconds it opened up and we again had water.

Tonight we're running more than a trickle -

I'm over winter. I'm feeling a need for temps above - well, anywhere above 32 would be dandy. Enough already!!!!!

The coldest I've ever been in my life was July in Santa Barbara, California. I like Springfield, the food is good and the women are all pretty. If I waz going to move to Missouri, that's the town I'd pick.

Too cold for my tastes.

What happened to global warming?

This has been one nasty cold winter in the US.

Our final count: 14 inches. I'll insert the temp. Can't bring myself to type it.

I don't understand how New Mexico can be so cold! Altitude? Isn't it one of our southernmost states?

That's, like, Montana cold (grew up there, never going back, love Oregon's rain) ...

8,400 feet in elevation at my house in the valley floor, for starters. Cool in the summer. Cold in the winter.

That's colder than Minnesota's been! Think I'll stay here. Minus 8 this morning on my way to work. Plus 4 now but with well below zero windchills. Pumping gas is NO FUN! Pony probably wouldn't even start - haven't driven her since the first snow in Nov. because of snow on the roads (no traction). It's not top down weather anyway.......

Yes, altitude. Santa Fe is 7,000'. Temp drops about 3˚ for every 1,000 feet, so instead of highs around 90˚ in midsummer, if SF was at 1,000' (more like Phoenix, actually 1,117')), 108˚, also more like Phoenix. Grand Junction, near 5,000', and often close to 100˚ in summer, at 1,000', 112˚.

We are at 6,837' and it's supposed to be -5˚ tomorrow morning. It's 16˚ now. We had 3 1/2" of snow in the latest storm.

Angel Fire is nice in the summer (and so is Lynn and Maria's campground) and seems to be colder than usual this winter.

It's been an unusual winter. Our mean temperatures have been above average, but we've also experienced the lowest of lows, too. We're a bit off on snow, though this last storm did us a 23" favor in the end.

Climate change predicted this—higher average temps and more extreme temps and storms.

We are also low in snow. In the early part of the last decade (the "oughts") we had severe drought with as little as 30" one winter and 36" 2 others. Last winter we had 80". So far this winter we are a bit over 31".
