Snow Loads

I store my 25' FC outside, no cover. Living in Sun Valley Idaho, do I need to worry about snow load in the winter?

Thumbs up Snow Loads

Snow loads vary greatly by region. Check with your local city or county building departments. Ask what the local building code uses for conventional wood frame construction. Then call customer relations at Airstream to direct you to someone that knows in their organization. I'm confident the good folks can provide accurate information.

Hello and welcome to AirForums. We are glad to have you with us. I hope you enjoy your trailer. My trailer is a 2013 25FB twin Flying Cloud with 50,000 happy miles on it.

Airstreams rarely get damaged by the weight of snow, but it can happen. The one case I remember here on AirForums was someone from Ontario who bought a vintage trailer in need of an overhaul. He gutted the interior, removed the interior skins, and then re-did the exterior--resealing the seams and polishing it to a glorious shine. Then he went to Florida for the winter, and the trailer collapsed due to heavy snow. I don't know if the removal of interior skins was relevant to the situation.

Anyway, Sun Valley can get heavy snow accumulations. I would recommend that you clear it off when it gets deep. I would use a step ladder and a push broom.

Also, it would be a good idea to check for moisture inside the trailer when you have a warm spell after snow has been sitting on the trailer. The snow can dam up the meltwater and maybe give you a leak via a route that would not be a problem for rainwater.

No...

Note to the above...yes removing the interior skins will greatly weaken the semi monocoque construction of the AS.
