Don't move. If you wait a while I think we can send you what you want.

Lynn,
It's best for Maria not to drive the car until it warms up, say about April. At those temps, it'll take a month for the oil to drain out anyway. I'm sure she'll understand you could die out there under her car and then she'd have to run the campground by herself. It's supposed to be about 50˚ in Santa Fe today, so you could drive down here. I'll watch you change the oil.

Boy, I wish we were in Santa Fe! Then I could make the case for getting somebody else to change the oil. And it'd be warmer, too. Unfortunately, though, we've got an RV coming in today. An Airstream, no less. (Alas, no WBCCI and no Airforums, so full price.)

Guess I'm spoiled by my job - or a wuss, wouldn't change the oil in temp's under +40. Are you still waiting for the oil to drain?
Terry.

I was talking to a friend a few ago and he said he put some sort of "stopcock" on his oil pan, and if I remember correctly, attaches a rubber/plastic? hose to it and drains it. Say's it works like a charm - NO MESS!. Hasn't warmed up enough to crawl under his truck to check it out.

I've got one on the MG. Alas, mine doesn't have enough length to make attachment of a hose feasible. One problem is that oil plugs are often at the bottom edge/corner of a pan, angled somewhat downward. A longish stopcock might potentially expose it to accidental knock-off while driving over larger obstacles.
Even so, having the stopcock does make it pretty easy. Rather than crawling around with a wrench, you just push the drain pan underneath the car and pull the tab over. No wrench, very little crawling about, fairly unmessy drain.
Can't say the same at all for oil filter changing, which, for me, is always the messiest part on the Ford, on the Honda, on the MG, and on the tractor. (Well, almost. Draining the oil on the tractor is fun because the plug is not a plug, but a 2-1/2" screw-in plate. You take that thing loose, and oil gushes out like a river. Takes about three seconds to drain all six quarts, even when it's cold!)

Way to cold!!
. Any temperature that requires a minus setting doesn't even begin to appeal to this old fat boy. I'm thinking that even a good natured Eskimo would be hard pressed to find time to turn hot water into snow on a bad day. I will consider my typical North Carolina weather just right for camping in the old silver bullet year round. Ya'll don't freeze the nuggets off and see you later somewhere down the dusty road.

1948 Ford 8N. Starts like a champ to around -15F. Then it begins to object, and I go back inside, where I should have stayed in the first place.

Lynn,
Pretty much the same forecast here. NYC has had more than twice the snow we've had this winter. Ski New York City!
Did you get the oil changed?

Blizzard, snow, preceded by ice starting tomorrow morning in SW Missouri. Supposed to break a 1903 record. 16-20" forecast - with a state of emergency going into effect - and - predictions for wide spread power outages........oh good!!! Didn't get a generator yet........not on the budget this winter - will be next summer!!!!!!!
