We just visited an Airstream community in Hillsboro, TX, today and were impressed with the concept. Members have a small home/base with plenty of room for their Airstream. The community provides mail and other support for traveling members, and Airstream ownership is a requirement.
We were wondering where there might be other communities like this. Are they all set up as associations, with the association owning the grounds and the members owning the improvements? What are the pros and cons (looks like resale might be one of the cons, or is it just the economy?)
For anyone inclined to comment, what would be your ideal version of an Airstream community? Location? Amenities? Low Price? Picturesque sites? Shopping access?
Merry Christmas from Melbourne Florida, another Airstream Community. There are several Airstream parks. Check this website and Fred's Airstream for additional ones. Take Care.
Look at Airstream life magazine fall 2008 page 50 thue 51. It has artical and list of many of the Airstream parks.

We stayed at the park in Lacey, Wa. last year. It is a nice park and the fees were $13/night for full hook up. In August they have the Potlatch Salmon Rally there. We were trying to make that when our radiator blew and had to wait in Hood River, Or. for a couple of days to get it fixed so we missed the rally. The folks in the park are friendly. The only drawback I would say is it is about 1/2 mile from a mushroom farm and the smell is not the best at certain times. We did enjoy it.

We appreciate all the comments, but note that very few of the "communities" mentioned are actually like the one in Hillsboro. Hillsboro is designed to allow 'Streamers to have a modest home base (a more or less conventional residence or a "villa"), with support services while away (mail forwarding, security monitoring, etc). Lot prices are low, and you can buy an existing residence or build your own.
We like the idea of a community dedicated to people who have Airstreams in common, but recognize some downsides too. Like limited re-sale potential (excluding non-Airstreamers is reducing the market by a lot). We'd still like to hear what Airstreamers would consider to be their ideal residential community, or even if you think the whole idea stinks.
