Who will do flooring in sw missouri?

If I live in Springfield, MO--how do I find out if someone will replace all my carpeting with new flooring? Anyone have any ideas on who does this work in the area? I don't want to replace with carpet but something else.

Who will replace flooring in sw missouri?

While not precisely in Springfield, there is one company that specializes in Airstream interior refurbishment about one day's drive from you. Fowler Interiors in Symsonia, Kentucky offers a wide selection of products and Arlene and her husband are both perfectionists. Six years ago, they installed seamless vinyl flooring (Congoleum) in my '64 Overlander and four years ago, they installed laminate flooring in my '78 Minuet (Armstrong with quiet step underlayment). Both installations have held up very well and look as good as the day they were installed.

Closer to home, you might try contacting flooring installers listed in the Yellow Pages to see if there is any interest in your project -- or go to your favorite flooring store and ask the same questions.

Good luck with your project!

Kevin

IF you want an a/s shop to do your carpet contact airstreamofarkansas....

in searcy, ark.

they can either do the work OR suggest who might be available to do it.

the issues ARE

-how much carpet do ya really wanna replace?

-and how much $$$ do ya wanna spend?

the carpet went IN before any interior parts,

so to do a 'total carpet' replacement, means removing the interior.

that's a fair amount of labor charges for 150 sq ft of flooring.

the sofa, dinette, bed area can be pulled out pretty easily,

taking out the galley and closet and cabinets is a lot more work.

so, many folks only do 'partial carpet removal and replacement.

most a/s flooring (carpet and lino) is only attached at the perimeter and NOT glued down.

so again some folks just CUT the carpet out at the appliance fronts and do the replacement flooring.

with quarter round trim to hid the edge areas...

almost any rv shop or auto/truck interior repair shop could do the flooring.

i'll wager there is a shop IN springfield that does classic/custom car makeovers, and they would have a 'flooring' person...

cheers

what about insulation factor

What about the insulation factor when going from carpet to marmoleum or laminate? It seems the pad under the carpet does dual purpose. Maybe should keep everything carpet except walking areas????

what padding under the carpet?

have u pulled up a corner somewhere and found padding?

heat goes up, heat lost is out the top and windows.

sure floors can get cold,

but area rugs, socks, mukluks or rabbit shaped slippers work!

how about a bear skin rug?

i had my unit built with NO carpet and really love it that way,

have camped in sub freezing weather and cold floors haven't been an issue, cold windows are!

wet carpet will happen, stinky carpet will follow and so on...

cheers

I was more concerned about the heat. It takes awhile to cool this baby down in the hot summer. If heat rises off the ground as we travel, is that heating it up inside and making a noticeable difference? I'm with you though 2air', anything is better than carpet, especially when you have 2 bird dogs tracking around.

I remembered that they had a website - Fowler RV Interiors

Kevin, do they have a terraport so you can stay in your Airstream overnight? Probably not recommended if they're redoing the floor I'd guess.

The insulating factor of your floor is covered by the fiberglass insulation under the flooring itself. The amount of insulation you get from the rug and or padding under it is min. Now having said that the conductivity that your feet will feel when you step on a laminate or tile floor is a different thing. Any solid flooring will feel cold on your feet compared to a rug. These are 2 different things.

If you can use a rule, chop saw and hand drill you can install a laminate flooring yourself. Not that she was the greatest helper I have ever had but my 4 year old granddaughter was great with the drilling. The only reason for the drill was to drill over sized holes at any point that the cabinets would be reinstalled to the floor. This insured the laminate could float.

You will note I removed all of the cabinets forward of the bathroom, except the kitchen sink to make the installation much easier. If you have it done don't let them just cut around things unless necessary, the kitchen sink, because the will have to install 1/4 round molding at these cuts and that makes the job look like an after thought.

Thanks for all the input. I will give Fowler RV a call and make an appointment for the winter. I will also make sure the floor remains floating if we choose laminate. I might possibly to marmoleum. Don't quite know yet.

Yes, the Fowlers do have provisions for the owner to stay in their trailer while work is in progress. This is something that they ask to have pre-arranged so that they will be sure to have everything scheduled for the most efficient (quickest) job completion.

There is also the option of spending a night or two at one of the nice hotels in Paducah, KY (40 miles West) -- or one of Kentucky's excellent Resort Hotels such as Kenlake State Park Lodge (45 miles East). If work is scheduled during the off season, the resorts often have some very attractive rates.

Forgot to mention in my other post.

I did not remove the carpet from the bathroom of the bedroom for 2 reasons.

Comfort on my bare feet, as noted above, and the carpet was in good shape.

Unless the carpet is gone it is not worth the effort.

An Option for Floating Floor Underlayment

When Arlene and Henry installed the laminate flooring in my Minuet, they utilized Armstrong Quiet Step underlayment. I don't know precisely why, but the floors in my Minuet are always a comfortable temperature -- I have never noticed any cold sensations. The only other difference with this coach is that it has the aluminum sub-floor.

Armstrong Flooring

A possible reason the used Armstrong is the fact that it has one of the easier locking systems to work with in small areas. Also Armstrong is less destructive on you saw blades.

I used Armstrong but lucked into the 2 factors mentioned above. Armstrong had the best overall color match to the wood work in the trailer.

Hey, I found a guy who does flooring in RVs and is just 30 minutes from our home. I have him a call and he will be looking at the unit soon. I'll let you know how it goes.
