New Floor

Newbie here> Is there anyone out there at this time that can express to me when I go to replace my floor on my unit which way i should run the flooring. I have heard that either way is fine. Is this correct? Also can I lay a tile floor in the bathroom and hallway?

If using plywood, I would run it crosswise. Plywood is about twice as stong lengthwise (across the frame) as it is across the short dimension. If you use something other than plywood you should call it out.

I would reconsider the tile. The weight is a major issue. That goes for anything you add to your Airstream. Do some searches on this forum and you will find a wealth of information about weight limits.

That said, I've seen others who have used tile in their Airstreams...

The consensus is to install it across the width. With that said, I installed my cork lengthwise and haven't seen any problems.

Definitely let it float.

Here's a previous thread.

In homes the flooring is usually run the length of a room. Its all a matter of taste. Do what looks right to you

Be careful with bamboo it tends to shrink in dry climates...

You can lay it either way because it's purely decorative. IMO it’s more aesthetically pleasing to lay it lengthwise, but it will be easier to lay and make your cuts if you lay it across the width of the trailer.

Across the trail also makes it look wider. Thats how I did mine. And I also didn't do it all at once so it makes it easier to start and stop..

Airdaddy,
If you're thinking of replacing your flooring material take a look at this old thread...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f461...ter-41785.html

it may answer some of your questions, it has a lot of good information in it.

The Allure Trafficmaster is a consideration, and there is a similar product at Lowes called "Novalis" plank vinyl flooring. The biggest difference between the two is the Trafficmaster sticks to other Trafficmaster planks along the edges, and floats, while the Novalis is peel 'n' stick (which sounds scary, but people have used peel 'n' stick in Airstreams with success).

I would definitely advise against real tile in the bathroom. Not only is it heavy, but with the way the trailer flexes and moves, I don't see any way to avoid the grout cracking, and possibly the tile itself cracking as well. Vinyl tiles, linoleum tiles, sheet vinyl, or sheet linoleum are common products used in Airstream bathrooms.

Good luck!
