I installed FLOR a couple of years ago. It's wonderful stuff. Use the Dyson battery vac when it gets needy, and I've had to lift up a couple of squares and wash them due to major food spillage. Just soak them in detergent in the laundry room sink, rinse them and let 'em dry, then put them back down. The "dots" do hold tight. FLOR is very low maintenance and ideal for the traffic in my Airstream.

Looks terrific Denda. Good idea too.
If anyone lives near a CB2 store in the major cities, they have a good looking line of carpet tile as well. Or look them up at CB2.com

The FLOR carpet tile system uses circular adhesive disks to hold the tiles in place. Both sides of the disk are sticky.

How many of these do you need per square? My main concern with this type of flooring is left over adhesive mess on the floor if I want to go to some other type of flooring or replace sections.

perryg114 - The Dots are not sticky on both sides. They are not stuck to the floor. They send you the amount of Dots you will need for the amount of squares you buy, plus a few extra.

Did those of you who used the Flor squares run them throughout the bath area too? It seems counterintuitive to put anything carpet like in the area around the commode and in front of the shower, but sure would look nice to go throughout using the same thing.

Oh, so they just tie the squares together, not also to the subfloor? I had misunderstood the way they work! I guess that makes it even easier to remove/replace sections for inspection/repair/etc. Now I just have to get the 28' far enough along to need finish-floor.

Yes the dots just connect them to each other. You cut through the dots to separate them then put a new dot down to put it back. This is what I have been looking for. You can change them out if they get dirty or add or subtract them if you change the floor plan. I did not want to spend a lot of time and money and then when I get around to remodeling and changing out the gaucho for a dinette etc., I would have to redo all the flooring. I also don't want floor covering in certain areas that I want to monitor for moisture.
The socially acceptable way to put down flooring appears to be to put the flooring down first then put all the stuff back in. The problem with this is you can’t see leaks and the water gets trapped under the floor covering.

To tell you the truth, I have not even used the Dots yet We are not completely through with fixing her up and I didn't know if I might have to pull them up for something. We have used the trailer anyway and the squares have not moved. Someone working on her at an rv repair place got a little grease on some of them, but it washed right out
I even vacuumed them and they stay in place.

Flooring
I'm new at this. Am restoring a 1976 Airstream. I had decided on vinyl wood-look for floor but just read above post about shrinkage. Could someone expound on that?

I know this is an old thread but I gotta ask: did you just butt the edges up to the furniture or did you pick everything up and slide the carpet underneath the furniture?
I REALLY don't feel like moving the furniture.
Any reports on how it's wearing? Shifting around?
Thanks!

Did you remove the dinette and beds to install or just cut around? I was planning on only removing the sofa and cutting around the remaining cabinets and dinette.

My rig originally had carpet and clear vinyl front to back. I removed the easy furniture so I could rip it out. Reduced weight and exposed the subfloor for future inspection. Easy furniture includes: sofa arm rests (not sofa), lift-up tables, dinette benches and adjacent cabinet, bed frame. Most of the mounting screws (but not all) are easy to find, and in some cases I just lifted the furniture up to slide the squares under them (bed, dinette benches). Every where else, I just made very careful cuts so the squares butt up against the furniture or wall. You may find some things are not completely parallel or square. Make templates. Love the squares. Easy to lift up to clean or inspect the floor below.

You can not put padding under them. The bottom backer has a little give, but is thin. The pile, for most models, is also thin. They are more "cushy" than a vinyl or wood floor, less cushy than the original thick carpet with padding. We do not find it too hard to walk on.
