Floor Molding Suggestions?

Hello all. I just finished installing Lowes Smart Core Pro in our Argosy and was looking for suggestions on what people have used for edge molding and how it was installed. Quarter round?, Door edge molding? don't know

Thanks, George

I milled Douglas Fir to various heights and thicknesses, mostly 1/4-inch thick and about 1-1/2 inches high. Either glued and nailed it with 18-gauge finishing nails with a nail gun to cabinetry, or riveted it to inner skin where applicable.

I installed a cork floor in our 66 Tradewind.

I took regular oak base shoe and cut it down from about 7/16 x 3/4 to about 5/16 x 5/8. I wanted it to be smaller yet still cover the 1/4” gap. I used 18 ga wire brads (1”) to install the base shoe. There are photos in my rehab thread- Dan’s 66 Tradewind Improvements.

How are you enjoying the cork floor? Cork is water permeable, correct? Is it durable?

The cork has held up very well and we are quite happy with it. One small area got wet from underneath and we had to replace about 2-3 sq ft of flooring. Fortunately we had some extra flooring (and remembered where we put it). I did seal the flooring on top with a couple coats of sealer. If it gets wet it will expand.

We are presently camping at the Outer Banks in NC. Here are some photos I just took.

We used small ( maybe 1/2 or 3/4 inch) 90 degree aluminum angle pieces to finish around the edges of our floor. We had laid cork down before we started building cabinetry, so it runs under everything. That way we only had to cover outside edges, which was very little around the front of the trailer. We fastened to the wall with rivets.

Hi George,

I just ordered this as well for my floors and I was wondering how difficult was the install and how much glue did you use to install it.

Thanks,
Lou

The install wasn't hard, more of a PIA because it's a trailer. Unlike a nice square room it seemed like every piece needed to be cut or trimmed in some way. No glue is used. The floor "floats" I ended up using quarter round molding to finish the edges. The smart core pro is very stable dimensionally. It doesn't swell or shrink as much as some flooring.
Of all the flooring that people use on the forums, the Smart Core Pro is the only one that I know of that is rated for the extreme temperatures that an RV sees. Even Smart Core Ultimate is not rated for extreme cold or heat. Most flooring really is designed for a 3 season room. I did use the Smart Core foam/tin foil underlayment. Can't remember the actual name of the stuff. Also I used a table saw and a radial arm saw to get accurate cuts. The stuff is not easy to cut the way they suggest. Good Luck
Just used the same stuff to do the bathroom floor in our 99 Classic. The pic shown does not show the door threshold installed.
