Carpet removal tips?

I am needing suggestions about how to best remove the carpet from the bath and bedroom areas of our '95 Limited. (The PO had already replaced carpet in LR/galley with oak flooring.) This need results from the leak we found in the bath--for which I had to cut out bad carpet and to trace the leak. I was surprised (well, not really) to discover that the carpet is put down, and then apparently the interior furnishings are built on top of it, making a problem when carpet needs to be taken up. I am stumped about how to get a clean removal up to the wall/cabinet areas. What have you all done when faced with this? I am sure it is a simple and apparent solution to most, but I am having a problem. Also, what do you do, when you have removed carpet to put in other floor finishes, with those strange areas that AS carpets such as up the wall by the toilet, or along the walls in the bedroom? I guess these are wheel well areas or something of the sort. Have you left carpet there, or removed it also and replaced with. . .what??? Thanks for any help you can offer us!

Maxandgeorgia. a very sharp knife can be used to cut round the furniture. The trapped part can be left in place. If you use the forum search facility for "carpet knife", you will find eleven threads which discuss relevant issues. Happy reading! Nick.
