Beauflor vinyl

What's the general consensus on the Beauflor vinyl that looks like hardwood? Airstream installs this from the factory in some of their newer models.

If you have it or have seen it in person, how do you like it? I love the hardwood look and need a solution to replace the carpet with.

I like it alot and had it installed throught my new trailer and in place of some carpet in bedroom when I ordered my trailer. I think it looks better than the older stuff A/S was installing as it has more of dark and light accents throughout the flooring. It is a soft(padded) flooring and has some wood like grain indentions in the pattern like you find with a real wood floor.
It was one of the reasons I bought a 2010 over a new on the lot model of a previous year. It was something new on 2010 and now it's in 2011 models.

Hey Texas People! I actually posted this question a while back myself. Other RV manufacturers are using this floor too. I think it looks good, but where do you buy it?

I don't know where you could get a roll of the flooring. I would think that since Airstream uses so much of it now that they could help you with a source or at least a manufactures part number so you could call around to local stores to find it.
Good luck!

Smile Beauflor

I agree it looks like a high-end product that looks better than previous flooring. I believe you can order Beauflor products from campingworld.com.

We saw it being installed at Jackson Center about 8 weeks ago. Very nice looking, and this from an old woodworker. Linda wanted to replace our carpet with it, but I really LIKE padding around in my socks when I'm 'home' so I resist. We may just replace the old OEM carpet with a slightly darker shade. The challenge is, as you all know, that the OEM carpet goes wall-to-wall, under EVERYTHING. The retro fit will be exciting if we don't want to remove the whole interior . . . hmmm.

Hi Greg. Do not know about your 99 model. But on the 88 Excells the carpet does not go under everthing. Airstream put in the cabinets, beds, sofa, etc and then fitted the carpet around them. Not a bad job removing it. We went with wood flooring in one trailer and a wood look floating floor in the other. We just got back from the Southwest Caravan. I shudder to think what it would have been like trying to get the bucketfulls of sand that came in through the windows out of a carpet. My wife thinks getting rid of the carpet was the best modification we have done on the trailer.

@Bill: Sounds like you made a great choice. Hope you had a GREAT time on caravan. In our '99 there is even carpet in the rear storage trunk (over which someone had placed heavy clear plastic before we owned it); under the water pump in the hatch in the closet floor; in the side storage - i.e., everywhere! I'm sure it is much simpler to carpet the shell before all the casework and fittings are put in.

When did AS start using Beauflor? Must be after 2008 since my vinyl is buckling while stored for the winter. Do they glue the flooring to the subfloor? I wonder if they are using Durabec which has many colors and patterns available.

it looks real nice and it has a fine texture on it which give a good footing on it. i however don't like the cushioned backing and it doesn't seem to be resistant to tearing.

To answer your first question. I had to request it installed in my trailer when I ordered it in 2010.
If I had not requested it I may have gotten the lighter flooring. I guess my trailer was made in the transition time (April- May) between model years.

I see no evidence of glue, although I have never lifted it up to look.

During our tour a couple of weeks ago I noticed AS does not glue it down as with the shell off they can tension it correctly and only staple at the perimeter and corners.

Talking to the factory flooring rep. they are advising us to glue it down with an adhesive they sell in conjunction with the flooring.

We got about 12-15 samples today in the mail and they all look great. We are planning on removing all of the furnishing and doing this upgrade in the next couple of months.

We have floor rot in the back 3 feet of our 1999 Safari so now is the perfect time to do this upgrade.

We are planning on gluing the floor down and installing the diamond plated aluminum in the outside compartments on a piano hinge so leaks can be detected and corrected before damage in the future....

It seems like they only make 2 finds of Airstream ones with a leak and ones that will develop a leak!!

Well I got the patterns and picked one out and got a quote. For the whole trailer it was like $250 for the flooring. I thought a pretty good price considering this is the same stuff going into brand new units at Jackson Center.....

I'm not looking forward to the tear out but I am looking forward to rolling into camp and not having to deal with carpet any more....
