Ok all, I have some allure planks. We are getting closer to installing it. I was Reading through the installation manual for the the flooring. It states not to use in a camping trailer. Since we bought it months ago returning it is not an option and we really do like the floor style.

Has anyone had problems with the heat during the summer on the floor? I was wondering if there's problems with separation or expansion issues. We live in Florida so the trailer does get very hot.

I have Allure in my Overlander, had it in a Sovereign before. It expands a little in the summer but if you leave a 1/8 or 1/4" space around the edges it is fine. I cover the space with a shoe modling

My only input is I have used it in a couple of my rental properties. Great durable stuff and handsome as well.

Silverflames...my experience hasn't been so positive. Installed Allure bamboo flooring in our "78" Ambassador. Left about 1/8" around the edges and ran it lengthwise in our Ambassador. It looked beautiful when first installed. That Winter we noticed considerable gaps in the flooring...more so end to end gaps. During the Summer some of the gaps close up with expansion. I'm in the process of flooring a "74" Tradewind and don't think I'll be using Allure but go with solid sheet flooring of some type...probably marmoleum.

We live in Texas and it gets H O T. I put the Allure in a 75 Argosy, run lengthwise. I did not leave enough gap at the edge and experience some buckling. Went back a trimmed to a 1/4" gap and problem solved. Love the stuff!!

Good.. What was the temp when you laid the floor? I might want to adjust the temp inside to a middle ground so the seams don't expand and contract to much.

I have used it too. It is great. Now....pay attention. When installing it use a pattern where you lay the sticky side down onto the previous piece. The adhesive is so good that if you touch the sticky strips at all...they are together. No adjustment. There is no sliding that one piece under the previous to a good connection. By laying it on top you have that control.

I'm sorry, in a but confused, I had my brain cell sucked dry at work today. What do you mean about a pattern? Like a card board cut out?

When I installed mine (which has been working fine for 4+ years now) I used the release paper laid onto the sticky surface to keep the two overlaps separated until I had the planks into position, then I kept them in place while I slid the paper out and bonded the overlaps. My gaps are really tight in the winter and less so in the summer, but I'm not that picky and I like the Allure flooring just fine. I left about a ¼" gap around the perimeter with molding over the edge and it never buckles.

I have had ours installed for almost 2 years. Works great. I installed length wise. I used a cutter from home depot that was design to cut vinyl tiles. The cutter looks like a school paper cutter. Think carefully through your plan to minimize waste.

I laid my floor in April and the temperatures were in the 80's when I did that.

2 Questions; what did you use to cut the curves? Did you start from the middle of the floor like most flooring or one of the edges? Thanks

I laid mine out lengthwise cause I think it looks better that way. I snapped a chalk centerline on the floor and worked outward from it but understand that one side of the line is more difficult to lay when it's done that way because of the overlaps. I have a pair of really heavy duty shears and a razor knife that I used for trimming.

I made a template with heavy brown paper and cut the curves from that

My brother in law installs flooring for a living. He uses a heat gun to heat up the planks before cutting tight areas. You can also score the plank and then snap it.

Using heavy duty brown construction paper is a good idea. Use that to make your patterns, then over lay it on the planks you need to cut.

Install instructions state to start on one wall and then work your way over.

Thanks Guys, I like both ideas. I get some paper, make a story stick with a paint stick and figure the curves.

Did you check out the Ultra Allure with the interlocking edges? I think I'm going to try them. Not much about them here, but rv.net makes them sound promising.
