Question Caravel Shocks

68 Caravel. Are the shocks on this original or someones add on? They need replacing. The wheel bar coming off the axel is nearly parallel with the ground, slight down, like 5 degrees. New axel time? Changing the axel doesn't look like fun. The bolts are very rusted. Anyone know how much a new axel weights. Does it come with brakes and drums, ect. May be the lesser evil.

Painted exposed iron parts with Por 15 today. Real nice stuff. Will do primer later today, top coat this week and final clear coat sealer next weekend. The weather gods have not been cooperative.

The shocks are most likely original.
Go to http://inlandrv.com/articles/dura-torque-axle-92001.htm
for info on axles. My guess is you need to replace axles. It is a common problem with older units. A trailer with these axles must be stored with weight on jackstands or the compressed rubber will harden in the compressed position. Problem is most people leave trailers on wheels. There is an older post withsome info at
http://www.airforums.com/forum...le+replacement
Good luck.
