Why do I have a 12v outlet in the lav?

Does anyone know why I have a 12v outlet in my bathroom? (1970) It's in the ceiling right above the toilet. I'm worried someone might stick their finger in there.
Well, I guess if you're going to get the crap scared out of you...

I better get back to my epoxy... It must be ready by now.

Charge your cell phone?

Surely you would want to be able charge up your cell phone while you were using the facilities would't you? I wonder if 12 volt RV appliances were (or are) available such as electric razors and the like? Maybe this type of outlet is intended to help curl your hair (you can stick you finger in to see if this works).

I basically have the same question that you do. I am in the process of completely reworking my AS and wonder if I should maintain the 12 volt outlet there or not. My service manual tells me that some of the 12 volt outlets in my rig were extra cost options. I don't remember if the one in the bathroom was or not. I think the one in the back bedroom was though.

In our '64 manual, it designates the 12v in the bathroom as a 'shaver socket'. There is another one across from the galley behind the gaucho...odd location, but we use that one to charge our cellphones...who woulda thunk it in '64?!

Use it to charge cellphones, run 12 volt shavers, 12 volt hair dryer. Lots of 12 volt stuff in truck stops.
