Twin mattress replacement in 2017 28'FC. Recommendations?

Looking at replacing our 5 year old, "greatly used" twin mattress's; which are starting to bottom out. I have read a few posts in the past, and even checked out the new offerings at AS in JC last October from Southampton. They looked/felt pretty nice!

Looking at the 10" Ultra Plush, at $1275 from AS Store, 3-4 weeks before shipping. Any input from folks who have gone this route with the new 10" Ultra Plush from Southhampton offered by AS Store?

Is there something better I should consider?

I replaced the awful twin mattresses in my 2017 FC with custom mattresses from https://bit.ly/3zNl30M. Really high faulty. I full time and have a really nice bed to sleep on.

I converted my 27FBQ to twin beds and bought 8" Memory foam Twin XL mattresses from Amazon then cut them down to size with an electric carving knife. Very easy to do. Just make a template from cardboard, take the zippered cover off, mark with a sharpie, and cut, then put the cover back on. They were about $150 each.

I actually bought one to try it in case we did not like it.
Way cheaper than buying a custom one.
There are lots of choices on Amazon as thick as you want.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Good Luck as a good nights sleep is important!!

If you have twin beds with the upper cabinets overhanging your feet, think through the thickness before ordering the 10" mattresses.

We have 6" mattresses, and my size 8 feet don't have much room over them before I start kicking the bottom of the upper wardrobe cabinet. If you are an active sleeper and have a wardrobe hanging over your feet that 10" mattress might be an issue.

BTW, we find the 6" mattresses sleep very nice. We sleep better on them than on our Tempurpedic mattress at home.

I replaced twins in my 25' flying cloud last year, but I think I am in the minority in that I don't like memory foam, so I went searching and found a coil spring replacement, and am very happy with that so far. They are made by AB Lifestyles, they also offer memory foam if you prefer that, and they offer customization in sizes if you want 2" wider, or something like that. They also make them with the airstream "curve". https://www.ablifestyles.net/airstream-mattresses/

Bed replacement

Like Richard, be sure to think about the cabinet at the foot of the bed. I ordered a 10" memory foam mattress from Amazon and it was too tall. I now have a 8" which puts the top of the mattress about even with the top of the nightstand in between the beds. This seems to be about right for us but I would not go any thicker. a good 6" thick mattress might be ideal.

We replaced with Cantwell Mattress in San Antonio. Custom made to whatever form you give them.

Any mattress manufacturer should be able to make whatever you want. We had Texas Mattress Makers make our twin mattresses to our specs and we love them. We ordered Airstream twin sheets from AB lifestyles. They are available in different lengths.

We bought a memory foam king size mattress (same one we sleep on at home) and cut our own mattress with electric turkey carving knife. Total cost about $550! Very happy and comfy!

I replaced our 10 yr old factory mattress in out 25’FC FB two yrs ago with an ENDY (CASPER would be similar) foam mattress that I customized with a template and an EXACTO knife plus I added a FROLEY SYSTEM (springs to provide an air gap between the plywood ned frame and the mattress.). I am kicking myself that I did not do this the yr we bought the Airstream. It has made all the difference in the world.

I just received a quote from North America Mattress Corp. for this mattress

https://www.northamericamattress.com...13096471887942

It will have the curved corner per the Airstream twin mattress but it’s only 76” long vs 78” and 7” thick, my 2016 26U twin is 8” thick. I was quoted US$515 each.

You might want to check out Mattress Insider. I just ordered a Park Meadow twin and the total cost, including shipping and tax, of just over $450. It is highly recommended.

We replaced our twins while at the International in Escanaba, MI a few years ago. The local manufacturer was Clare Bedding. The mattresses are great and were not expensive - don't remember the exact price but certainly well under $500 apiece. We got delivery while at the International so don't know about shipping costs. A lot of Airstreams purchased mattresses while at the International.

Ikea mattresses

We replaced our AS FC 27' twins with innerspring pillow top mattresses from Ikea. The cover unzips and you can snip out a few springs from the corner to fit the curve.

Not an inexpensive solution but....

we had the room at the foot to use Sleep Number extended twin mattresses. They fit with just a little crumple in the rounded corner and we fill the gap towards the center aisle with pillows. I had to extend the bed platform top in length and about 2" into the aisle. They hold pressurization well so should be good for boondocking. As long as you have shore power you can customize the softness as needed. We love ours. Got C2 Twin Xls and put a foam topper inside the cover. This made them about equivalent to the P5s we have in the house. They are on sale now for $599.

We called the Airstream Life Store for our custom, round corners, queen. 1.5 years in, I couldn’t be happier. Honestly don’t remember the cost, maybe $500. We did have a problem with the mattress and the owner of the mattress company called me and all was resolved.
Give them a try.

Contact mattressinsiders.com via their 800#. They have the Airstream mattress drawings and I replaced the twins on 2 Airstreams. They are probably they least expensive of any options out there. You need to call because your the only one who can answer their specific questions. Airstreams mattresses are firmer and overhang the twin platforms. I recommend you measure the platform and change the width on the inboard side of the mattress if you like a softer mattress.

Not sure I understand your last statement? We are looking at the Super Plush model from AS Store which is 10" thick twin...I understood these to be a good fit for the 28' Twin model we have, even though originals are 8" thick. Are you saying the Mattressinsider models are softer than the Super Plush models? As for cost, I am not sure $1200 for 2 is a bad price?? I called the mfg. for AS and they would not sell to me direct. Interesting quest I am on now...wife complained this morning about "bottoming out"; we have been on the road in the AS now since June 1, so likely after 5 years owning this, time to change out the mattress! (happy wife, happy life?)

Twin Mattress Replacements

Hello, We replaced our twin Mattresses in out 2020 Globetrotter 23FBT with two 8" thick ones from https://www.tochta.com/product/utopia-mattress/. They are a little more firm that the original Tufft and Needle ones. Have slept 20 nights and we like them.
