Table removal

Hi all,
We have a 2020 23 FB we’ve owned for 2 months. Our problem is with the dinette table in the booth. We HATE the pedestal that you can unlatch and swivel and are going to make a smaller table top that is narrower so we can slide in and out easily. It’s just the 2 of us so no one will be using the bed.
Now to our problem... we can’t figure out how to remove the sliding plate under the tabletop from the tabletop. Once it’s removed we are going to remove the slides and attach the smaller tabletop to the wide plate mounted to the pedestal.
If this doesn’t make sense imagine drawer slides. These are positioned flat on top of the plate between the tabletop and the metal plate.
Would appreciate any suggestions, but only if you know it will work. We’re fairly handy but this has stumped us!

Yep Agree that the table in the 23 can be frustrating. Yes the slider mech. can be removed by getting under the table and removing the screws from slider to table first. You have to move the slider back and forth to access the screw heads the are located within the actual slider slot tracks. Then once the table is off, you can now access the screws that mount the slider to the post. The plate on the post then can be used to fix mount a table of your choice, I used a pre made top which is sold as a tool cabinet work topper. Keep all of parts and table in for when you trade or sell. Take some care as the table is heavy, and when moving the slider to access the table screws can get away on its own. Let us know how it went or if you need further.

We replaced ours with a Lagune pedestal but kept slider mechanism. Frees up space under table and allows side to side table movement. Very happy with it.

Just a quick note, we too didn’t warm up to the pedestal in our 2020 23’ Globetrotter.
So we purchased the Lagun set-up and made our own table top out of oak, staining it a weathered grey. We modified the dimensions of the top to facilitate our use patterns. We absolutely enjoy this setup. So far, it’s one of the best modifications that we have done, and believe me, we cringe every time we start a new project, considering what these puppies cost. Not a complaint, just have reservations sometimes about causing an issue ( screwing up)!

Our modification uses the original 3 position telescoping leg and slider at the dinette.

I was trying to fix a problem with the stock table where the edging was sharp. I ended up replacing the top and modifying the leg to go down 2 more inches.

All the original functions work however, we went with a slightly smaller top to fit between the benches and eliminate the hump created when the top is down.

We also like the rustic look of the new top.

Likewise -- Replaced Factory Dinette Table with a custom made table from recycled wine barrel top. Best design idea that enables ez movement in and around the seating area. Plus still makes into a guest bed.

Ok, everyone, thanks for all the photos and suggestions. Thought I'd update you on how we made this work for us.
We are in the 3rd month of a 5 month trip. With all the devices and chargers we have...bicycle lights, plus smart devices, we decided that we would need a place to store it all and boy, were we right!
Attached are photos of our work.
We don't need the dinette to make into a bed so we put in a slightly bigger table and 86'd the back cushions so we could use it for storage. I made a wooden box to fit in the space with a tall handle that is used to support that end of the table.
Then I decoupaged a US map to the table top. It has held up really well. We have poured over it many times during our trip.
Hope you like it, we don't know how we would get along without this space.

Your long table top looks good. I have a very similar conversion done by the original owner. However, he had made a permanent box under the table near the window with drawers and riveted the original table column. He also moved the underseat support wall 6 inches are so up to the wheel well to increase the sitting capacity.

I took out the rivets and have made the box under the table none permanent, so that the bed is still usable. I am not using the original corner cushions as they just use space. If you take the two small square cushions that go on each side with the corner cushions and join them, they fit perfectly as one side back cushion and still can be used for making the bed. For now I am using the window back straight cushion for the other side (though its a few inches too long). I plan to replace the longer cushion with a matching one. (my local upholstery makers has already made me one in leatherette with the stitching that matches the AS perfectly).

We don't want to do anything permanent for resale value. Everything we have done can be undone. Got any pictures?

Attached are the pictures of my installation. The bigger table is only fixed to the original table support plate. The wall support is not fixed and can be removed to allow the table to drop to allow full use of the original bed configuration. I have kept the original corner cushions and small table top with the sliding mechanism that can be reinstalled to the original installation.

When I saw the original Lagun Table leg support from "dolson" I knew it was an option I had to try. Thanks. And, thanks to excellent customer service from Kristy Schmitz at Lagun USA I was able to purchase a leg and get it installed before our next trip. What a great space saving solution that allows more options for table placement. Installation was a breeze. I elected to add a reinforcing board behind the support bracket. I also kept the Airstream tabletop slider. We simply covered to screw holes in the floor with a piece floor mat.
