some photos of my recent interior work

Though I was pretty sick over the holidays, I did manage to get a bit of interior work accomplished. The largest project was painting. I had some difficulty with the primer (XIM) in that it dried a bit too quickly - making it difficult to work with, especially at the end cap. I recovered the gaucho's in slipcover style. I could have done this much better - using piping and all - but I wanted the job done quickly and, in case my dogs make a total mess of it, I didn't want a tedious job ruined. I also started on my new drapes. The first pair is up in the living room - shirred onto a rod left by the PO - but I intend to pleat the top and secure it to a more modern rod. To me, this preliminary work looks so different. But, when I look at before/after pics on my camera, it's only a slight change. I've got lots more to do - in due time.

Slipcover

Can you share more about how you made your gaucho slipcovers?

Your Airstream looks very fresh now! You've done a great job.

Sure - see this thread http://www.airforums.com/forums/f39/...fun-47310.html for more details and pictures of the work (sorry the pics are all different sizes). If you want more details, let me know. I did it very quickly and not at all like my grandmother taught me!

Thumbs up Thanks

The bed in ours is one that the back rest flips over to become the front of the bed-quite a feat of engineering but I'm going to try and slipcover it. I got a quote of $500 to reupholster, that's more that we have to spend right now. I found some suedelike fabric on sale at JoAnn's for $3/yd and bought 6 yds. I've done other simple upholstering before so I''ll try it and if it doesn't work, I'm only out $18 and my time.

I love the blue/brown floral you've chosen for walls.

Beautiful! I love the colours - and I really like that blue fabric.

I noticed the white fabric in the sleeping area. Your dogs must be much better behaved than mine! That white wouldn't last very long in my world...

I don't know how long I expect it to last .... didn't spend too much $$$ or time on it for that reason. The reason I decided to try it is because I have had so much luck with OxiClean! It seems to work really well thus far.

Thanks for all the nice comments. None of the projects are done quite as well as I would like, but I felt rushed (self-imposed) for some reason .

What kind of paint did you use on the interior walls? Our 1970 could use some freshening up, too, but I've just been afraid of painting!

Nice job, Laura. It is much brighter. Those old cushions look like a mattress you'd see on a pile of stuff thrown out by the curb, so this is a tremendous improvement. So stop telling us how bad a job you've done. Even a guy can see you do good work. Makes me think maybe we should paint the fake wood on the partitions, but I think we'll wait a decade or so.

I read lots of posts here and noticed that the primer of choice was Sherwin Williams Bonding Primer. I used XIM - at the recommendation of the SW manager. I had some difficulty with the XIM primer and wonder if the Bonding Primer would have been better.....After double cleaning with TSP, and light sanding (120 grit) of the end cap, I put on (2) coats of the XIM primer. Then I put on (2) of Sherwin Williams Duration (lowVOC) laytex. I sure hope it all sticks!

You'd have to find a "donor trailer" that's similar in year to yours. New replacements aren't available...

Very bright and airy. New life for your Airstream. You did pretty good for being sick! I wouldn't accomplish that over Christmas break if I was on speed.
