Sofa replacement in an Excella 1999?

We want to replace our sofa in our 1999 Excella. We are full-timers and sit on it everyday just time to let the old one go. So where would you shop?

Thanks for any help!

Hi Kat,

I'm not sure if you are wanting something special like a sleeper sofa, or something that has recliners built in?

I was looking at what big chain stores are around you and am thinking that some places you might want to start are La-Z-Boy, Ashley HomeStore or if you're out near Baton Rouge there is Pottery Barn. I'm not sure if your local Macy's has a furniture section or not? Sometimes figuring out what you don't want in a sofa will help steer you to find what you do want. I have owned sofas that are too low, too soft, too firm and too hard to clean -- so with all those mistakes behind me I am pretty fussy!

If you're looking for a sofa without bells and whistles, I have read that looking for stores that offer an 'apartment sofa' (not love-seat), can help you find a ones that are not too deep so will take up less floor space. With the curves of an airstream, the back will likely hit the wall at some point, possibly making the new sofa sit a bit farther forward than the one you have now.

There are a lot of online retailers too, but for something that you will sit on every day I would want to test-drive that in a store!

I hope you find something wonderful!

You may want to rebuild your existing sofa. I say that because it will be tough to find a general purpose one that you can fit through the door.

In our previous trailer (1986 Sovereign), we had ours redone with new foam and new upholstery for a few hundred bucks and we were happy with the result.

It comes apart with about 8 bolts as I recall.

n2916s has a very good point on getting something through the door, other than Ikea (which pieces often do fit through a doorway and you assemble yourself), there are other companies who do "modular" designs where pieces come separately. If you do bring anything in, the measurements are crucial.

You can also search "sofa in a box". This article lists 10 companies that deliver sofa pieces in manageable boxes.

I haven't personally seen how the sofa in your Excella is constructed and attached, so don't know what would be involved in trying to get it out and back in if you wanted to have someone else reupholster it (if you don't think it's a job you want to take on yourself). In my area, professional reupholstery is often more costly than new furniture, but maybe there is a good local person who can do it?

I was thinking new because so many upholstery guys are booked out. Guess that is my only good option is to find one. Thanks for the help.
