slideout conversion

Hello all. Im new to the forum here. I have an idea floating around in my head so I thought id ask about it here and see what yall thought. I have a feeling this goes against everything an airstream afficianado is for and ill get flamed but anyway here it goes.

What are yalls thoughts on taking an old "60-80's" sovereign and making it a slideout on both sides? Is it possible? Would it cost too much? What about making it a fifth wheel?

sorry if this is in the wrong section

I think it is in the wrong section.
I believe it should be in Section 8.
Why not just buy a 5th wheel with a slideout on both sides?

Once you get through doing that to an airstream, you will have put as much money in it as a 5th wheel would cost and it will have next to zero value.

Regards,

Ken

If you look at weights involved with slide out A/S. The average Soverign has a tongue weight around 700lbs and the 34' slide outs weight is 1100 lbs. You would have to totallt rebuild the frame and A/frame tongue to handle the weight increases. Given that the modifications to the body would be all custom the costs to build would be extreme. Why not take a 34' slide and modify it for the other side slide. You could use off the shelf parts and modify them to operate on the other side. I can't see how a fifth wheel set up would be possible.

lmao, I thought i would get comments like that. Its ok I can take it.
I figured it would take a lot of money. I just thoought it would be cool to have an old custom slideout airstream (minus the fifth wheel). A gutted soverign would cost maybe 1-2k?

Does anybody know if it has been attempted?
......I might not want to know the answer to that. It might just fuel my fire. lol

Well, here's your gooseneck adaptation. Spotted at the 2007 Branson Fall Rally.

Anything is possible, given enough time and money. If you were serious, I'd get whatever vintage model you'd like and take it to Timeless Travel Trailers, along with a blank check, drawn on an account with at least six figures in it. They are one of the few companies that could do it correctly.
