Replacing jackknife sofa with recliners

we are updating our 1989 Excella 25. Wanting to replace the sofa and side table with recliners and table in between. We like the looks & size of euro style recliners, and looking at the many options. Has anyone tried the Recpro Euro recliners? We like the looks and price but comfort is most important, my husband has back issues. Or can anyone give recommendations on comfort and durability of other brands. We hesitate to buy without trying first. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

The original owner of my Safari 25 replaced the sofa with LaZBoy recliners and put a small table between them. They wouldn't swivel far enough to face the table. That trailer didn't have a dinette and the flip up tables were replaced with storage cubbies in the conversion process so we had to eat off of TV trays. The recliners were also rockers so it was uncomfortable to sit up to the TV tray to eat. Here is a picture of the recliner setup:



I decided I had to have a dinette and we traded up to the Classic 30 slideout. I couldn't get comfortable sitting on the sofa due to my height and the low back so I wanted recliners.

I didn't use the Euro models due to the battery boxes on either side at the front, but I did use RecPro. The first sofa they sent me arrived damaged. I e-mailed them and they sent a replacement within two days. Great customer service! We have had the recliner sofa in the trailer for about 6 months now, traveled over 5000 miles and spent 28 nights on board. The recliners are SO much better than the old sofa.

Is this an Apple commercial?.. hahaha,,, looks like a great set up.
Thanks for the input,, makes us more comfortable in our thought about changing to the chairs,,,
It seems like such a large decision to take out the sofa..

Thanks for your reply, it was very helpful. I could tell the pic of your 25, that the lazyboys were restricted from swiveling, plus the cubbies and being rockers. I was hoping the smaller footprint of the Euro recliners would allow swiveling to eat and play cards at the table. So many things things to consider in a small space, plus we have battery boxes in the front I have seen reviews on recpro's good customer service, wondering about comfort and quality. Congrats on the 30 slide out, I'm sure that makes a big difference

We replaced our dinette in our 25'FC with Lambright swivel wall hugger recliners. Very comfortable. They make several different recliners and sofa's. Good quality and well made. They are an Amish company out of Topeka, IN about 150 miles north of Jackson Center, OH.
indianawoodcrafters.com is the web site. I ordered them direct from the factory and picked them up and took them to Jackson Center for the installation and cabinet construction.

We also weren't fond of the gaucho in our '90 25' Excella. We stole a couple of recliners out of our home theater (LazyBoy I think) and installed them instead. It's worked out perfectly for us.

Flexsteel makes two different jack knife sofas. There is one that is about 49" when it's in the down position. It is very comfortable and 100 times nicer than the original. I can post a pic if you like.

The Lambright recliners sound great, were you able to have a table in between & swivel to it or get the side mounted tables? Would love to see a picture thanks for your input.

Thanks Gulliver72, that looks like a great setup. Did you put the table in or was it original? Would love to know the size & where you ordered. Also what kind of recliner, looks one is not a recliner. Do you have enough space to swivel? Again thanks for sharing

Stkwhittler-the table is 22” x 32” x 25” high. Purchased for $30 from RV surplus store in Elkhart. Both chairs swivel fully. One is an Ecorn “Stressless” (from home) the other is a cheap Thomas Paine from local RV store.

We had the swivel wooden desktop that attach to the chairs. We ate our meals off of those and worked great for computer use. Will try an upload a photo.This photo is our 2015 rear bed room twin 25' Flying Cloud. We are currently thinking about doing the same to our new 30' Classic. The couch in the new one is fine the reclining chairs are not comfortable to me.

We too took out the 'gaucho' in favor of a sofa with recliners at each end and like it much better than the original. Has any heard that the the original, bolted to the floor, was a part of stabilizing the frame? I'm wondering if I should bolt my new couch in place like the old one.

I think we would be in trouble if Airstream required a couch attached to the floor to finalize the stabilization of the frame. I am pretty sure it is strong enough.

We don't secure our chairs but have a 2x10 flat on the floor behind them so they don't slide too far forward during travel.
