Removing stains from shower stall

I am looking for suggestions for removing RV antifreeze stain from a shower stall floor. Bleach doesn't do it. Thanks.

My "go to" is Barkeeper's Friend or Zud scouring powder - both contain a small amount of oxalic acid which is a rust remover. Use with care on fiberglass. Make a paste, slather it on, drink a beverage of your choice, gently rub and spray off. Never winterize so I'm not sure about the pink stuff.

Try toothpaste too (not the gel kind) it's amazing what you can clean with that stuff!


When you get it off, follow Protagonist's advice - wax the stall down (not the floor though for obvious reasons - until it's time to re-winterize). It's really good at keeping water stains under control.

If the others don't work, my go to cleaner is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It has remove some stains for me when nothing else ahs worked.

Dear Moose - I read labels - and I've never specifically SEEN that the Magic Eraser is safe on fiberglass. (I know - I could redo the Jel Coat if I scratched it all to Hail, but I'd rather avoid doing that chore.)

To me, Magic Eraser seems to be an abrasive. It'll definitely lift paint that isn't at least six months old. Tell me it won't hurt my shower and I'll go for it!

Thinking outside the box, another thing you might try is Efferdent denture cleaner. If it will take stains off dentures, it should work on gelcoat! Dissolve several tablets in water, and while it's still bubbly, sponge it on.

I haven't used it on my shower walls, but it does wonders for the toilet bowl!

I also think the Magic Eraser will work, but would try just a corner of it on a small part of the stain, maybe right next to the drain (assuming that is where the stain is). This Mr. Clean product works great on the white weatherstripping/seal on refrigerators BTW.

Lumatic, are you talking about an older shower stall floor? If so the gel coat is probably shot anyway, so a more aggressive scouring agent may be acceptable? Soft Scrub first, then Bon Ami, Bar Keepers Friend, Comet and so forth in that order. Please let us know what works.

PS -- Learn something every day -- Bar Keepers Friend is without a hyphen per the mfg..

I second the use of Barkeeper's Friend. They now package it in a squeeze liquid form which is pretty easy to use.

I also have used a product named "FSR" (Fiberglass Stain Remover) on our boat to get the crud line off at the waterline. It is available at West Marine.

Wondering if you had any luck with any of the suggested products, and how old the shower floor's gel coat is? This would be good information to have.

Rubbing compound, any automotive rubbing compound in the white color always worked for me .
