Removing Interior Skins

Hello everyone, the student has returned

I'm preparing to install a surround sound system in our Excella and was curious about how I should install the wiring. One thought I had was to pull some of the interior rivets and run the wiring behind the skins.

So...does this make sense to you? I'm not sure if I need to completely remove the interior skin to prevent it from bending or can I simply remove the rivets along one edge, run my wires and then replace the rivets.

Any input you can provide would be great!!

Mitch

The wiring must be threaded through the main bows and/or horizontal stringers, as the case may be.

Mitch,
I am considering surround too and thought a wireless system would be the way to go. I haven't done much research but wondered if you had even considered wireless.

Would you recommend completely removing the skins?

I guess this means I should completely remove the affect skins. Are you guys aware of a thread on this forum that describes how to do this?

Is there a special rivet puller that should be used, etc? Thanks

Mitch

you'll see almost the same thread title here

here's a shorter answer to your question

http://www.airforums.com/forum...kin-21111.html

if you want to do a top job, you'll have to take the ceiling skin down. It's actually not too bad a job, you can do it alone--the trick is to get the skin from concave to convex along it's entire length, then you can pull one side from the rail. You'll find all the wires up there, then they branch off and go straight down the wall.

Taking down the larger side skin is more difficult--lots more rivets and they are difficult to open partially because they have such a concave shape. You can get a little opening at the ends, but you'll find that it's easier to take out all the rivets along one edge (top or bottom) and curl it a little so you can get your hand inside. I recommend the bottom edge, since you'll be able to thread wire behind it from the top.
