Relocating bathroom to a center position
On a scale from 1-10, how possible might it be to relocate the bathroom to a center position? I have metal and wood construction tools and skills. Mike

Moving bathroom
Mike, Anything is possible with skill levels to do the work. However, Keep in mind that the trailers are balanced as to weight distribution for ride and control (towability). If you change one thing it may lead to having to move other interior items to keep a good towing trailer from becoming a nightmare to control at highway speeds. The other issue I can see is finding a mid-bath model with the correct parts to use as a donor. The 60s' and 70s' models are different widths and curves from each other and any newer models parts may not easily be able to be worked into the older body style shells. Ed

If you're currently looking, why don't you just "look" for a center bath. That seems easier than buying a rear bath and relocating it . . . cheaper too . . . just thinking.

For some reason I can't find any center baths. I guess I just need to be patient. I went to high school in North Dakota!

Hello Mike,
Welcome to air forums. What year/length are you looking for? Switching bathroom locations can be done, but it's no small feat. Finding a CB model would likely be a much less expensive alternative.

The first ad I looked at in Texas is a mid bath. "74 Airstream 31ft rear bedroom"
74 Airstream 31ft rear bedroom..road ready
Here ya go. Now just clean it up and go camping:-)
There are LOTS of them out there.

Other issue is width. My 1968 is only 7 feet wide I thought about this but it's just not wide enough to do what I wanted.

Jason, Not surprising! Given the fact that you want a sunken tub! I guess you'll just have to settle for a SkyDeck with a Hot Tub! , Happy Trails, Ed

If the bathrooms get too big in travel trailers, they have to be retitled as porta-potties.

Well with 3 girls and a wife I am putting in and extra water tank and grey tank for a total of about 65 gal of water and grey tanks You wouldn't beleive how much water they go through
Might put the hot tub on a trailer and tow it behind the AS

Get an inflatable hot tub and a screen room to put it in. A couple of privacy curtains too. Then when you break camp (a) empty it in the drain if you have full hookups, using any excess water to clean your tanks or (b) water the woods if you're boondocking and it's legal and won't put a strain on the ecosystem or screw up your campsite for the next people who use it, OR (c) Fill your gray & black with as much as you can from the hot tub, and use a barrel or water bladder to carry the excess to a dump station.
Bathtubs in Airstreams are just "halfling sized" - pointless. If your water nymphs like a hot soak, the inflatable hot tub will make a wonderful luxury. They aren't cheap, but sometimes you can catch them on sale... and of course if you might enjoy a hot soak yourself after driving all day and setting up.
Paula
Of course, it will also enhance the "millionaire" image of all Airstreamers.
