I’ve always been one to keep my clutter to a minimum as my simple mind can’t deal with too many variables at once (male – KISS - can’t multitask easily) so when considering where in the kitchen area to mount the paper towel dispenser I rejected exposing it by nailing it to a wall and looked for a way to conceal it.
To that end I decided to mount it to the back side of the kitchen center overhead storage door. I was careful to use wood screws that were VERY short so as to not penetrate the exterior of the door. Additionally, since I had previously installed a second spring loaded support strut to all of my overhead storage doors the extra weight of the towels and hanger didn’t cause the door to droop. It has worked very well for 8 years, is very convenient to the entire kitchen area and when paper towels are not in use I reverse roll the towels so that none are exposed.
I really like that inside-the-cabinet thing, but we couldn't afford to give up the space inside that the towel roll takes up.
We use an over-door paper towel holder from Bed, Bath & Beyond, which matches the interior nicely and I just spring for the more expensive, prettier paper towels.
