New Owner and Interior Ideas

Hello, all! I've been lurking for a while, and decided to go ahead and post. We just purchased our very first camper, a 1972 Argosy 22, and I'm really enjoying getting to know her. I have what seems to be a very common problem with yellowing, and, after reading many posts, I am planning to paint. I am not looking for "technical" advice - I'd actually just love to see design ideas. What have you done with the interior? I'm attaching a couple of photos, and you'll be able to see that ours is still mostly original. You can't see the gauchos for the bedding (the kids are sleeping in the driveway these days!), but they are the original orange and cream. I'm not hardcore about staying original, but I don't want to lose the essence of the design, particularly since so much of our camper is still in really great shape. So, if you have something using colors that are true to the 70s (or just an opinion!) with maybe a modern/minimalist twist, I'd love to know about it!

Thank you in advance for all of the wisdom I am sure you will bestow!

Trina

She's nice looking! Having gone through high school and married in the 70's, I'm not sure I would stay with that color scheme.... (our wedding was yellow and pale blue, the grooms wore ruffled shirts, need I say more?). I like the branches and birds! And your upholstery is in really good shape, and not that blaze orange so maybe you should keep it all! Sorry I can't help with design ideas - our trailer was in terrible shape and we gutted it. I think you have a very nice trailer just the way it is!

Your interior looks great! Good original condition!
Here is the interior of my '82 limited. My endcaps and plastic pieces had yellowed as well. I painted it all. So much better! Floors are antique heart pine, kitchen countertop is travertine.

Nice touches! Are those branches decals or did you free hand?

You've got somethign on the wall behind your stove that would give me an idea. If you've been to a Home Depot lately, they are selling lots of glass tile backsplash similar in design to what you've got there, you could get some of that and do the entire wall behind/above the sink and stove. Would personalize it, also functional in that it will be easier to clean, and you could probably find color/pattern that fits in well with the 70s style you've got and helps to update it, make it look more contemporary.

Although a Bambi has limited space for redecorating, we have managed to create a number of great interiors that we change out for different trips, depending on the weather and where were going....all soft-goods...slip covers, bedding, shams, valances, etc...

Check our Website (link in our signature) for some of our ideas...we have even more now, but haven't got them posted online yet...

What beautiful work! I can't say that I like one better than another. That's a lot of work and dedication. I can't wait to see what you come up with to go with the ivy.

Actually, I made the thing behind the stove after I decided to just run with the orange and brown....it's just laminated paint chips Maybe I'll go for doing it all the way across...

Here is some food for thought..... I just ordered this for my parents '05 airstream backsplash.
The copper may look good with your interior!

A few thoughts from my Tradewind project. I replaced the plastic yellowed light covers overhead and then led light bulbs can be ordered that have more of a blue color than yellow. I put up an aluminum backsplash behind the stove that modernized the kitchen. It wasn't a big deal to replace the orange Formica with new current colors. Then curtains and new roller shades made a great improvement. And new pillows can neutralize those gauchos.

Trina I just bought my 78 in March and my aunt made the curtains for me. Brown and beige Zebra print! My husband was not in favor but I think they look great. Everything is all original but I'm redoing the sofa bed and wall behind the twin beds in lime green and dark blue. Will post more later.

We opted for an ultra modern look for a 1958 flying cloud. Something different.

Did you make your own cabinets or buy some and modify them to fit? Thanks. Looks great! I like the modern look.
