microball*****What is that fiberglass stuff?

I've been reading so many threads about repairing the fiberglass/ABS of the bathrooms that I've lost track. One, mentioned using a product that is added to the fiberglass rez to thicken it up to where it could be used on the surface areas, similar to bondo. It was called microballsomething. Anyone know what the stuff is called?

It is called "microbaloons." I have used it as a surfacing filler and fairing material in a sailplane I built. It is very light in weight and sands about like balsa wood. You can get it from aircraft suppliers such as Aircraft Spruce.

Thanks Pahaska.....how could I forget a name like that? That led me to all sorts of info about fillers and fiberglassing. Much thanks for your help

Microballoons are simply a fine silica filler. You can get the whole kit and kaboodle (the kit I can find, but what's a kaboodle....anyway?) from WEST System. The more microballoons you add to a mix, the thicker it gets. Any good marine shop should have it. If it's a small job, you can get the epoxy resin/hardener packets which make the job a whole lot easier and virtually fool-proof.

I can look up the part numbers if you need them, as I keep a repair kit on my service van at all times.
