Leakproofing

Does anyone know why Airstream doesn't simply spray some sort of flexible polymer waterproof sealant on the inside of the shells during construction?

It seems to my mind a simple fix to a host of problems.

Colin Hyde does this (or something very similar) in his restorations. You are correct that it should be SOP for Airstream to do this at the factory.

They do put some stuff on the inside. It eventually cracks over time. They don't want to build them too well or you will never buy another one.

Also, is there a better insulation solution than want they use today?

Contact Colin Hyde, I'm sure he will be glad to discuss what he does.

There is no simple answer to that. Some leak basically right away, other never leak, and others after a few years. The thing to do is to watch for sign of leaks inside, test the wood floor with a moisture meter from time to time (especially under windows and near doors) and keep up with maintaining the exterior caulk. An annual inspection of the exterior skin and roof penetrations after a unit is a couple of years old would be a good place to start.

Why didn't Airstream use (insert magic bullet I think would of prevented XYZ) on my Airstream so it would last for all eternity with no maintenance on my part ever? Seriously? This is inexcusable for what we pay. The outrage!
