J Trim installation technique?- 76 Argosy 26

As many know the vinyl J trim around front window and along front interior panels in 76 Argosy can/has dried, cracked and at points fell off. Any bump or contact can split. So, new Vinyl J trim ordered and need pointers on best technique for replacement? Do you require rivet removal, or can you work onto panel edge as you remove old trim, or use light pry pressure to ease open panel gap? My impression is rivets hold too tight and I do not want to damage panel. So before getting into this job I need directions. I did not find prior thread but know this is frequent issue for older models, and thanks in advance.

I'm needing to replace it in mine as well. When I do mine I will drill the rivets, insert the new trim, drill thru at existing rivet holes and re rivet. The original rivets have held up the existing but broken j trim for the last 43 years is kinda my way thinking on it. Hope this helps.
