Is zolatone 1960 oil based?

I've seen some posts but they are vague on specifics. Question is: is zolatone on a 1960 Tradewind oil based? and does it have lead in it?

I've been removing latex house paint using Motsenbocker 413-01 Latex Paint Remover. Its a biodegradable spray liquid and does a good job and barely touches the zolatone. Next I use Motsenbocker's Lift Off Paint & Varnish Remover, which is a thick jell, it will strip the zolatone. I'm wondering if I have to remove every little bit of it. Planning to prime and paint with high quality latex enamel. I'm worried that the stripper might come out later on and peel the paint.

Both of these products are carried by Home depot and Amazon.

i haven't heard a definitive answer about lead in zolatone, but i just did a test on my 1962 safari and it is definitely suggesting lead is present. please let me know if you ever got more info on this.

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer?

just called zolatone. in 1962 their paint did have lead in it.

also, they said it is possible to paint over the old paint after cleaning and priming it with a primer that can accept water based paint.

good to know!

I called Zolatone as well and was referred to engineering. "We are getting a lot of calls frim vintage Airstream owners lately", the tech responded.

I'd asked if it woulf be okay to paint over my interior skins for my '72 Overlander.

I never got a clear answer. He seemed a bit confused. "I'd recommend you just repaint using new Zolatone - we have new colors", he continued...

In the end, i never learned if Zolaton is oil or water based....
