What kind of glue is used to hold the header to the aluminum?

The plastic strip that holds the joints together was not properly installed such that it just barely caught the edge of the ceiling panel, so now with the heat 100+ it has fallen down

I’m thinking of using a spare plastic strip that I have and cutting it so that it can be slipped under the one in place to hold the panel up. Perhaps using rivets to hold it in place and painting it.

Any ideas?

If it has the vinyl material with the orangish foam backing, the issue is that the vinyl separates from the backing and falls - it's probably not the strip. There are a few things you can do, but I'm actually working on removing ours - it's a LOT of work but looks really cool when it's done. There are a couple threads around on it.

Other solutions include trying to tack it back up, but I didn't have much luck with any solutions I tried, such as using small screws with those caps, because then it'd just be hanging down between the screws.

If it's a different ceiling material, then disregard this post entirely.

It is the same material as you discribed. Did you try any kind of glue?

I used solvent based contact cement. First I brushed the foam glued to the ceiling to remove any loose material. Then I saturated the foam with the contact cement. I applied a liberal coat to the back of the vinyl and let it all dry. Then I stuck them together and went over it with a 6 inch foam paint roller to ensure that it was all stuck together. Have been doing panels as they come down. Did the first one in the bedroom about three years ago and it is still just like when I did it. Only down side is that it is a little bumpy but not noticeable if you didn't know that I had done this.
