Bathroom fan

I purchased a 2009 international last Friday. The bathroom and shower fans do not come on. I checked the bathroom fan with a multi-meter and it is not getting electricity. The gfi is on and all the fuses are good. Why am I not getting electricity to the fan? Dave

Probably a bad ground.
Not sure how yours is grounded but in my trailers they are grounded into the skin.

Hello dandp and welcome to Air Forums.

You mentioned gfi - I guess you mean GFCI - but that's on the AC circuit. The AC circuit and DC circuit are separate. Your fan is 12V DC so be sure you're checking the voltage on the DC setting on your meter.

As Iansk said, you could have a bad ground wire so be sure to check the + side of the DC circuit relative to a real ground rather than simply from one wire to the other wire.

Make sure your other 12V DC items are working - maybe you have a problem with the entire 12V DC circuit. Is your store/use switch working?

As the previous post said, its 12-volt, so also check your 12-volt fuses.

I have a 2008 27FB. I always have to wiggle the little red push button on the switch to get it to run in the shower. Toilet fan is ok. I assume that moisture has corroded the switch internally. When it finally dies I will replace with a sealed toggle switch.

Thanks. Checked the ground. It is Ok. No power to the positive wire. I saw where it said 12v on the fan. I’ll check the 12v fuses.

The store/use switch is working. I grounded the 12v meter to a rivet in the ceiling and checked both wires to the fan. 00.0 reading. What else runs on 12 v? I’ll si if it is working. Dave

Well I checked mine and the feed for both fans and the former fantastic fans (now MaxxAir) plus the bathroom lights are all on 12V fuse circuit 5 and connected to a blue wire if that helps.

I ran some wires directly from my car battery to my fan motor and it started working. So it looks like the problem is that both switches have gone out. Thank you everybody for your help and suggestions see you on the road. Dave

Wait. You're getting ahead of yourself. You now know that the fan motor works, but you can't tell if the switch is bad or the unit is not getting 12V. Try shorting the switch and see if the fan starts. Then meter the wires for 12v. DC.
