Banging sound

We used the heat pump for the first time this past weekend in our 2016 International. Every now & then we would hear a loud bang. It almost sounded like someone was throwing a ball against the outside of the trailer. I later realized that it was only happening when the heat pump was on. It does not happen when the ac is on. This did not happen in our 2007 Safari. Does it have something to do with the ducted system? It is very annoying. Is this something that others have noticed? Is it normal? Thanks

Here's a pretty much unrelated idea. Do you have a slinky hooked up? And is the sewer cap hanging on a plastic tether? If the wind blows the sewer cap bangs against the pipe or even the belly pan of the camper.

The vibration of the heat pump shouldn't CAUSE this, but if you have the heat pump running because it's cold and windy?

So, get a bungee cord, or something else and tie the cap down to the side of the vent pipe, then see if the banging noise stops.

Bob, I think you're on the right track. That's what I was thinking it might be. Two questions. Why didn't happen on the older trailer? And, is anything that can be done about it?

We have this same issue in our 2015 Flying Cloud 25FB. Ours is "oil canning" in the belly pan. It occurs when we walk through the trailer during certain conditions relating to temperature and stabilizer pressure. We now have spent over 170 nights in the 2015, and it still happens.

We had 1,300 nights in our 2005 Safari 25FB, and I never recall this happening.

Like Moosetags ours happens in our 2015 FC 30' when we walk in certain places and at times when the trailer is cold and we turn on the heat pump. It also happened in our 2012 30' FC.

Figured it out and just accept the idiosyncrasies of owning an Airstream.

Ours seems to be coming from above. Either the ceiling or ducts, I think.

Thumbs up

Our 63 Safari did it every Sunrise if we were parked in the open, sounded like slo-motion corn popping....got used to it, even enjoyed it after awhile.
We gave it it's own name......Sun-Rain.
