Bambi Overhead bunk option

First post here...just about to take the plunge!

We are picking up an '05 International CCD Bambi 19' next week. I'm curious if you can get the parts for the overhead bunk option from Airstream. I've seen it in a couple of pictures on this forum and I'm just wondering if it's something you could add after the fact.

It looks pretty simple to build something like that but getting the actual option parts would be ideal depending on the price.

Not sure if Airstream will sell parts like that separately?

Thanks,
Dean

Welcome to the forums.
Generally, Airstream will sell you just about any part they have. An exception would be if they only have enough of a part left to finish a production run.

I was interested in adding the bunk to a 19' CCD that didn't come from the factory with the option (was contemplating changing from my 16' to the 19'). I emailed with a rep from Airstream/Jackson Center, and he pointed out a couple of things. First, there are different ribs or bracing inside the trailer wall that are added to take the extra weight, and these are not included in the trailers that don't come with the bunk option. Second, there are differences in the window - the factory trailers with the bunk option don't have a window that opens, said it interferes with the bunk.

Bottom line was that it was not easy to add the bunk later.

This was a couple of years ago, so would be a good idea for you to 'refresh' this info with Airstream before deciding- will be interesting to see if you get the same info!

Mountainboy,

I bought my '01 Bambi this past January and on the original sale documents it listed the optional bunk as being in the trailer even though it wasn't. The PO, original owner, had not modified anything so they paid for it but didn't get it. I talked to Jackson Center about getting parts and was told that they didn't offer the bunk anymore and they didn't have the parts.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I was wondering about how to properly attach it to the side and ceiling..and if there was extra bracing in there to strengthen the attachment point.

Maybe I'll check with AS on it.

My Safari 30...

I have a Safari 30 Bunkhouse that has essentially the same layout as a 19 bambi in the rear. It appears to have a perimeter angle of aluminum and a "hanger" from the ceiling close to the fantastic fan that hangs the bunk. I weigh about 155 lbs and the bunk is solid as a rock, even though only my kids use it.

I dont see why you could not add it if you had the parts, and stayed careful of the weight. As far as the window, just dont use it.
