I started on my Safari striping out the carpet and removing the beds and dinette in preparation of it's restoration. Under the bed I found a postcard of the Grand Canyon it was addressed to the employees of the A&P in Beckly W. Va. The author wrote : We are having a great time. We drove through Ken,Tenn,Ark,Tex.,OLK.,N.Mex,Ariz. & Utah. Saw Grand Canyon. We are in Bryce Canyon Nat. Park Utah today. Are headed for Yellowstone, Wyo. Then NORTH TO ALASKA!!
I Goggled the name on the card and came up with a phone number in W. Va. when I called the number I got to talk to the owner of the Safari (now 63) and he confirmed that he indeed pulled it to Alaska in 1971. It is such a kick to be able to know some of the history of this Airstream. And imagine the great times and sights that the owners had and saw. I may not be able to take it back to Alaska in my lifetime but by restoring it and saving it for future owners maybe just maybe, one of them might.
In this way we Carry on the tradition of Wally Byran.
