1966 Overlander Interior
Hello, I've got a 1966 Overlander 26' that is in relatively rough shape but mostly all there.
Is there a market for original stoves, refrigerators, bathtub/sink assembly, toilet etc.?
What is the best marketplace to offer these items?
What would be a fair price?
I'm thinking of demolishing the interior and starting over with a new layout.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mike Collins

Hello from Colorado: It is my view that there isn't much of a market for the appliances or cabinetry from a vintage trailer. I do think there is a rare market for hardware items like knobs, hinges, door catches and the like. The classifieds in these Forums is an excellent place to advertise at no cost what you have and don't want. "Make offer" is the best selling price. Many folks give the stuff away if the buyer provides shipping costs.
I recommend you keep the old interior pieces to use as patterns in your project. Airstreams are not square, and sometimes difficult to duplicate an interior wall.
The Corning curved glass windows in your trailer are unique and somewhat fragile. Use caution when handling the windows. You can learn all about them here on these Forums.
I had a 66 Trade Wind, one size smaller than your Overlander. I did extensive renovation of this trailer. Most of the interior parts were reused. Here are a couple three of photos that you might be interested in. I did completely rebuild the bath. I did not like the Airstream bath layout with the bifold door and the hidden toilet. I also installed new, larger waste water tanks under the trailer. A necessity in most campsites.

David,
Thanks for the reply, I'd be interested to see some more photos of the bathroom rebuild.

The old Trade Wind had many problems when I bought it. One of the biggest problems was that contraption Airstream called a toilet. It was stuck, leaking, and thus rotted out the bath floor. Here is a photo of the toilet, rotted bath floor, and useless black water tank.
Here is a photo of the new black water tank and gray water tank I installed. I elected to locate the tanks more forward, and also between the frame rails. I elected to drain the tanks below the frame rail on the street side which is similar to modern designs.
Finally, I installed a small shower stall, a sink vanity, the new modern toilet, and a wardrobe closet behind the toilet. A photo of the final result.

David,
Looks good, very clean.
I'm guessing I'll be doing a similar rebuild.
First one so I am going slow, real slow.
Just starting to get a look at the floor, not bad so far but when I pull that toilet and tub out I'm expecting rot.
Demo a bit at a time and do a lot of thinking and imagining the space.
Thanks again for the reply.

Slow and easy is the correct way to go. Take photos of the "as was" condition. You might be able to analyze the rear subfloor plywood with an ice pick. Poke it around the rear storage compartment area and see if you feel any soft wood. Southwest Airstreams are typically in better condition than southeast trailers due to the drier climate.
