The End of the Road Life

The Road is a country onto itself. It has a huge spectrum of landscapes that are often inhabited by folks living in them - folks that vary as much as the views outside our windows, but they have one thing in common. They are our friends.

Six and a half years ago we had a dream, hitched up to it, turned the key, and hit the road without looking back. We didn’t know what was ahead, but it turned out to be more than we could have imagined. Freedom to go wherever we wanted, no clocks, four seasons, open space, and fresh air. The experience of stepping out our front door into the great outdoors without anyone in sight was a dream come true and we will never forget that feeling.

But like all good stories, there is a beginning and an end, and the road life for us has come to a close. We have decided to leave the Airstream Life due to a health issue and go back to an apartment to be close to our families. We hope to use our Airstream every now and then and get back out, but it’s time to start a new book. We are going to take our six and half years, look back and be grateful. As grand and rich as the landscapes were, it will be harder to leave our friends. Their faces, voices, and laughter will remain in our memories as long as we can hold onto them, and we will use our photos and videos to remind us down the road. I would be remiss not to give thanks to those here on this forum who helped us get started for that life on the road back in the summer of 2014. Just about everything suggested was used to our advantage.

We Airstreamers like to say "Home is where the heart is" but in a committed partnership, the heart is not just where but with whom, and I'm nothing without my wife. Still, there are things I will take away from our adventures and this I know: the memories outside our trailer door will always be on my mind, the fellowship of travelers and locals alike will make me smile, the ribbons of road will run through my veins, and my heart will always be in Escalante. ’Til the next time.

Oh Jeff. . . this is a tough one . . . gonna miss you both . . . and your outstanding videos and music.

Take care of your health . . . see you down the road . . . we hope. Having some health issues here as well.

PS -- For everyone's information, if you click on the YouTube URL at the top of that frame, "Full Screen" etc. options will become available -- well worth it IMO.

Thanks Jeff, for having the second video follow the one you just posted. Chris Stapleton's "Traveler" says it all . . .

Awww, sorry to hear of health issues and your change in plans, but you are exactly right...what a ride it has been for you two!

And you have been so generous in making the beautiful videos for we here to enjoy the magnificence of your adventures.

What we know to be true is that life can, and does, change in an instant.

I’m sure your wife is as grateful to have you by her side as you are grateful to be there, and I wish you both peace, comfort and much love as you feel your way thru this next chapter of your lives together.

Please stay in touch here, as your posts have meant a lot to many of us.

Hugs to you both,

Maggie

Wow, it's been 6+ years since that first work/camp gig!

Youre sick of hangin' around and you'd like to travel;
Get tired of travelin' and you want to settle down.
I guess they can't revoke your soul for tryin',
Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip it's been. JG

Just watched your last video on YouTube or maybe not your last one. You brought us good videos, good stories and beautiful memories of a part of the state that we hope to travel to again. Can't wait to pull my trailer up to Tropic Utah to see if it's as pretty as I remember which I think it is. Hope you get your health situation under control and continue your good life. Nothing in life is constant but change.

Just noticed that Jeff's YouTube channel has quite a few recent videos posted:

[click on URL to open up Full Screen etc. options]

Jeff I hope you will keep posting videos to your channel . . . you have a real talent for "seeing" the world, and making it available to us, with great music . . . wherever you are . . . even in urban settings, please.

"Coffee's YouTube" is especially nice -- "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac:

Lots of great tunes on Coffee's full Play List IMO:

Happy trails,

It's been a wonderful trip!

I will miss your stories and videos. Though we will probably never meet face to face, I feel we are friends. Take care and the best to you, Jeff, and Coffee. 💙🤗

From 2 years ago . . . stunning visuals and close-ups . . . camaraderie with friends on the road.

"Two of Us on the Run" by Lucius binds the video together so well IMO.

"And now we pass so many people on the road
They could come along, I wish they'd been told
They may call it a shot in the dark
From what we know, it's not unheard of
. . .
"There's no race, there's only a runner
Just keep one foot in front of the other
There's no race there's only a runner
1, 2, 3 even when you get tired
Just keep one foot in front of the other
There's no race, no ending in sight
No second too short, no window too tight"

Happy Trails all . . . life is short.

After watching a few of your videos Jeff [ . . . some more than once . . . . . . ], the camera and editing touches really caught my attention. Your "Camera work" play list has many good tips about camera cranes and so forth IMO:

Thanks again, Jeff . . . have a good weekend all.

New Mexico to Utah

There seem to be more short videos on Jeff's YouTube site than I recall being there before:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZz...zDs8yGQ/videos

This short "New Mexico to Utah" clip is visually stunning IMO:

Thanks again, Jeff and Coffee, for the fine videos and music . . . hope that you and your families are well.

Another one of Jeff's good short videos.

"Round 'em up, cowboy!"

. . . with a great "soundtrack" by Glen Campbell.

[click on URL to open up Full Screen etc. options -- well worth it for this "Western" movie . . . . . . ]

"Always Home"

Thanks Jeff for the recent video on your YT site.

[Click on the URL at the top to open up Full Screen etc. options]

Your panoramic photos and videos are especially wonderful, especially on Full Screen, with the sound cranked up. You and Coffee went to some of the most amazing "nooks and crannies" of our staggering world . . . reminds me of spreading PB&J on a well-toasted Thomas's English Muffin! [Apologies for the tortured analogy . . . ][I forget the west coast brand that echos the Thomas's "feel" .]

Any who . . . hope you are getting settled in to your new campground -- "Always Home Ltd." -- and that your neighbors are friendly and helpful with this transition. I am reminded of the relatively new movie "Nomadland," with Frances McDormand. The new communities she finds are challenging, but soothing at the same time. Plus the real travelers who appear in the film are truly remarkable, especially Bob. [trailer in next post]

Happy trails,

Peter

PS -- Will post that great S&G tune on the OTRA II music thread. BTW we are getting much closer to selling our FC20, as continuing health challenges are making it difficult to plan for a life on the road again.
