Mattress upgrade
I have a 2018 19-foot corner bed Tommy Bahama AS. I am on my first long trip (2 months) and my back and hip is killing me. My question is what has been the community's recommendation for a mattress upgrade? What company have you used? Did a new mattress solve your problem with back pain? Also is the plywood base the problem. The plywood is only 1/4 in thick and seems to sag. Has anyone strengthened this with a second layer of plywood, and did it help? Thanks for your advice in advance.

There are a lot of custom manufacturers of mattresses out there who can create whatever shape you need. A cardboard template would probably do the job.
Do an online search of the area you are in. I found one in our area pretty quickly. They have a number of options available, at about the same price that Airstream charges but without the shipping. I haven't purchased a new mattress yet, but when we're ready we will pay them a visit and choose the quality/firmness that meets our needs.
Perhaps you could reinforce the platform with a couple of lengths of 2x2 attached with a few wood screws to stiffen it.

We purchased new mattresses through Vinnie's Northbay Airstream. All done via email/phone and drop-shipped to our door. Big improvement from OEM...very satisfied.

Check out the Froli Bed System
Brad from Thirteen Adventures just i nstalled and reviewed the Froli bed system on their YouTube channel. It's the same system Airstream installs on the Atlas motorhome. NuCamp also installs it on their T@B teardrop trailers.
I ordered enough to do our twin beds; it's coming tomorrow!
You might want to give it a look; may still need a new mattress but this would be an improvement to either.

+1 on the Froli system. It dramatically improved the stock bed system on our 2018. I’d try that first and then add a mattress later if you need it. It also doubles as a air system to eliminate mold.

My Froli order came late Saturday; did the install yesterday and posted it on the “What did you get for your trailer…” thread here (#8057).
Super easy and fun upgrade. Looking forward to our next trip in a few weeks.

Several years ago we bought a new mattress for our 19' from Mattress Insider ( https://www.mattressinsider.com/rv-mattress.html) and have been very happy with our purchase. We went with one of their more expensive models. They were able to deliver a mattress that precisely fits the corner bed of our trailer. At the time we purchased, they could deliver any mattress properly shaped for essentially any Airstream.

Someone on this forum suggested finding a local mattress company. We have one in Reno that's been in business since 1949. Took my corner mattress in to replace. Customized and one great mattress. Inner spring and well padded.

I ordered a new mattress from AB Lifestyles. It is a 9" thick coil spring with a memory foam topper. It came in a box. Watch out when you open the box because it springs out like the old snake in a can trick. My wife opened it and it almost took out the big screen tv.
I would buy the mattress again.

Be sure to check under the mattress that the surface there is solid.
Our trailer had some super thin plywood so it got replaced.

The plywood under my mattresses was sagging so I reinforced the plywood with some wood slats and so far that was worked for me.

What mattress company did you use in Reno? I'm in Reno and the used GT we bought didn't even have the Airstream mattress; they had replaced it with super thick cheap foam. Thinking of getting replacement from Airstream, but a local option might be better and cheaper.

4" foam
Probably late to the game here, but I had a similar issue. I’m not a small guy and as a side sleeper my shoulders and hip joint were very uncomfortable. We are Tempur-Pedic fans for our home bed so bought a 4” firm mattress pad from Walmar for about $130 (Tempur-Pedic was about the same price but wanted it yesterday if you know what I mean). Easily cut to shape using an electric carving knife and put it under the AS mattress. Pretty happy with it but might add the Froli system on as well.
