Holding tank heaters

My 2008 Safari has holding tank heaters but I'm unclear how to activate them. Somewhere, sometime, I thought I read they only worked if the furnace is in use. Does anyone have any insight to share?

I don't believe there are real heaters on the holding tanks, but there is extra ducts that blow warm air when the furnace is running. At least that's what I have been told.

To the best of my knowledge, SteamRollin is correct. I, however, keep looking for a reason (need) to drop the pans and really insulate the tank compartments and add electric tank heaters. I just can't figure a simple way to support the tanks to remove the pans.
