Getting Ready to go Full Time (9/15:)

We are getting ready (and excited) to go full time. We are going to KOA in New Bern, NC for the fall and than South FL for the winter. We are in our mid forty's and would like your advice on:
1. What to do with your free Time
2. Organizing the trailer, Packing (what to take...) etc..
3. General ideas that will help us Not to Kill each other in this small space

Free Time - seal the seams on your trailer on a nice cloudy day so that you don't get a sunburn. After that, meet the locals and ask for best area secret places.

Packing - LESS than you think. The world is full of WalMarts and if you forget something you need you can always buy it. If you have your toothbrushes, a couple of changes of undies, toilet paper, a first aid kit, a GOOD quality slinky or Sewer Solution, a good water hose, and a bit of food and beverages - you're actually covered. Get what YOU really miss, not what everyone "says" you'll need. (Camping World is in business to SELL you crap, not to HELP you.)

I'll add a robe because people always knock when you're nekkid, a pair of flipflops for the camp shower because they'll cut off the water on your row to work on the pipes when you're really in need of a shower. Seriously take very little in the way of pots, pans dishes, silverwear, small electrical appliances, etc. Make a list of "REALLY wish I'd brought" for your on the road purchases.

How to not kill each other - First, you'll see a bad wreck somewhere in your travels, remind yourselves that as long as the shiny side is up and you've both got your health - everything else IS the small stuff. Assert that at the start of every tense situation.

Second it's a 34', that's a BIG space - or big enough to retreat to opposite ends and cool off. The crapper and kitchen are like Switzerland - neutrality must be respected or the world will end. In the heat of battle one party goes to the bedroom, the other to the couch -

and the next 15 minutes are spent figuring out how to how to respect and praise the other person's dignity while still logically and calmly negotiating (a) surrender with honor or (b) victory with grace... Or if you have the sense that god gave the average duck (c) finding a real solution that makes both parties willing to abandon their previous positions.

Last at least once a week, do something silly like playing with water pistols, making smores, or putting a woopie cushion under some innocent person's cushion.

We are going full time the end of this month. Starting out near Lake Travis outside of Austin.

Have you made the move to South Florida for the winter?

Yes, We have been in Ft Lauderdale and now we are in Pensacola, FL. next we are heading to San Antonio. TX for a month or two

you were in Pensacola on the 12. We are heading to south TX in Feb we are in Gulf shores state park at this time. If you want some one to tag along we have been on the road for about 1 year

We would love to tag along. We booked a spot at Admirality RV park in San Antonio, TX and we are going to be there from 1/24 until 2/24.

Ed & Marylou, You two seem to be moving right along. We plan to stay in the mobile / New Orleans area till the 2 week of Feb to get a taste of Mardi Gras then a week in western La. to get a dose of Zydeco Then on to south of Houston. Then west to Big Bend we were told March is the best mo to see it. Our son will be in the San Antonio mid March for about 90 days area so we plan to go there after Big Bend. So Stay in touch and if our paths cross we can get together.

What??? Mid-forty's? Are you "trust fund babies" or did you do well in the stock market with Apple??? LOL

I'm 66 and am getting ready to full time myself. My advice to you both... spend LOTS of time all over in Canada. Very civil and friendly folks who are not packing firearms. British Columbia is drop dead gorgeous any time of year.

Totally agree with OregonCanuck about traveling beautiful B.C. -- but for us it has nothing to do with guns or no guns. Just beautiful country.

We stayed last summer in northern B.C., Yukon Territory, and Alaska. Stayed in gorgeous provincial park just north of Clinton B.C.. So wonderful.

Other great ones all over the province, really our favorite part of Canada so far. We've spent part of four or five summers traveling across Canada, variously from Kenora ON, or Winnipeg MB, or Waterton Town Site, always landing for a couple of weeks in Vancouver BC. We love it all.
