Winterizing-- do I have what it takes?!

We'll winterized for another season.

Made the same mistake as last year. Had the front value next to the fresh water drain value open and lost some antifreeze before I noticed when I turned on the pump... oops.

I also ended up somehow with raw hands at the end of it all and my hands looked like they were burnt since I spilled some on my hands! I didn't think RV antifreeze was something hazardous to handle.. wasn't in the past.. maybe its the brand I used this year? Polar RV Antifreeze. Found this report... RV ANTIFREEZE

Warning to others! I had not seen or read anything about pink antifreeze being a hazard to handle!

It is suppose to go into the mid 20's Saturday night from the upper 40's during the day and return to the upper 40's on Sunday. Will I be safe with an electric heater (Vornado) with the cabinet doors open to expose the water pipes or should I also have the furnace on for the night?

Furnace. Mid 20's might causing freezing problems in the water tanks, and the forecast may be wrong and it could go lower.

You should be OK. What you have to fear is freezing oven night and remaining below freezing during the day and freezing again the second night. Now if it is in the 30s during the day and going down that night I might get concerned.

The trailer is a large thermal mass and it takes some time to drop the temperature in it.

I have frequently had nights in the 20s and awaken with the supply hose frozen but the trailer systems OK.

I have never used a compressor for winterizing. I drain the hot water tank, put the system on bypass and run RV antifreeze through the system. I have a 32' trailer and it takes 2 gallons including dumping a cup of RV Antifreeze into each p-trap.

I just picked up a small air compressor from Home Depot on sale for $99.
It's worth having even if you only use it for winterizing and filing your tires.
Doing mine today because it froze a little last night.
BTW, It's all you will need to to power a finish nailer or pneumatic sanding and grinding tools if you plan to do a restoration.
