Winterize - Pump will not draw Antifreeze?

I have a 2005 Safari LS Slideout 28'

I have installed a winterizing valve at the inlet side of the pump - The pump has worked flawlessly for fresh water - I always blow out the lines and all fixtures with compressed air before starting to add antifreeze - after turning the diverter valve when I try to draw antifreeze in through the pump it will not draw I have tried a funnel to prime the pump it takes what I pour in but it will not draw from the bottle
Any ideas?

Do you have a tap open? If nothing is open it will not pick up the antifreeze!!

Are you sure you did not install the valve backwards? They are one way and its an easy mistake.

My thoughts. Fairly easy to do.

Valve in backwards

I think you have the valve in backwards.
I bought a new 2019 Fc and had the exact same problem.
I called the dealer and they never even bothered to return my call.
Pour anti freeze into the clear plastic tube and then drain the tank to see if anti free come out. This is how I discovered the the valve was in backwards.
The valve handle should face in the correct direction.
I removed the valve and reversed it and everything worked.

PovIndy, once you verify the valve is installed correctly make sure the fittings on the pump are tight. Any air leak can keep the pump from pulling a vacuum.

I had trouble getting mine to draw from a bottle too. I found a Hopkins FloTool funnel with a shutoff valve. Turns out the valve’s threads match the bottle. I made a stand to hold the bottle upside down so gravity helps it prime.

NOTE: Put a vent hole in the bottle so it doesn’t collapse. I cut a hole in the bottom and just poured more in when needed. I used some quick clamps to hold it when opened the faucets.

If you don’t want to mess with a stand, have someone hold the bottle for you.
Works for me!

Winterize - Pump will not draw Antifreeze?

Many ways to skin a cat, but if everything is working correctly the pump will easily pull from the AF jug, upright. After all it pulls from the fresh tank just fine, which is lower and farther and doesnt need ‘priming.’ If the pump won’t pull from the bottle, then you have a bad connection at the pump or winterizing valve. A 1 gallon jug should get sucked dry in a minute or less.

Factory installed winterizing valve backwards

Just tried to winterize my new 2023 Bambi. Airstream installed the valve backwards. Pump would not draw antifreeze. I reversed it, and now it works correctly.
