The secret to backing into a space - it is not a race, take "your" time. A few extra minutes is far cheaper than the deductible on the insurance....

I can put AS in yard alone
When I get "help" it takes cellphones and earphones...
I put my son (35 Y.O. USMC) in truck and I guide. Keeps the planet a safer place.
Bob, great water bottle idea. It is a more gentlemanly approach.
Of course PharmGeeks drive is pretty straight edged too.

The gentleman approach mentioned above could also work without the water bottle....

Yes......but it would involve at least a six-pack, which may impede cognitive reversing.

Learn to park alone. I prefer it most of the time. Get out and see what is going on often. Look at it as exercise. You can get the wife to help when you are 80 and can't see and don't feel like getting out of the truck to spot yourself.

Yup just lock kids and bride in AS so you don't squish anyone. Also don't forget pets.

it seems a recurring theme in RV literature/forums/movies - discussion of the difficulties, anxieties, and disasters of communication problems between the husband and wife backing the trailer...
Also (and I can be a real dullard) but I do not understand the water bottle thing here

The trail of water is a line.
It is easier to back a trailer and get it straight if you have a guide line.

Couldn't agree more. My wife is much better than me at many things, but spatial geometry in motion is not one of them. I can hardly get her to understand, if she can't see the side view mirror, I can't see her. Save your marriage. Learn to do it alone lol.
Very nice job on your pad, I'm jealous.

He is right you really need a guide line, especially if you are trying to back into a sight on your right where you only have a mirror to see what is going on. If you have a line, you know that the wheels go parellel to that. Something like an extension cord or hose will work fine.

Maybe I should get some rope lights considering the number of times we arrive at a campsite after dark!

I use a marker behind the intended parking spot. And constantly change views between mirrors. (Nothing wrong with other methods). This may be a problem with not only smaller mirrors, but those which don't extend out far enough to have a decent convergence distance behind the rig (which I expect is most).
FWIW, truck drivers are paid to back up. The rest is easy (in a general sense). How to set up the turn in backing seems to take longest to learn (and can vary greatly per trailer size and wheel placement on trailer) and one learns to use markers of where one is throughout the maneuever (where the driver is located in relation to what aspect of the maneuver is underway). This is where cones or other is invaluable . . do it several days in a row. And at night. Then set some more permanent markers.

I have gotten estimates for tree trimming from 2 tree trimmers.
One step closer to an Airstream shelter.

Thanks! Was seriously thinking about renting it out to fishing folks. I have a ramp and access to the largest lake in NC. Its primitive but its mine. I use the alumacave as my office when working from home.
