Shortage of RV antifreeze this fall?

I can't verify the reliability of my source, but I've heard that RV antifreeze is going to be tougher to get than usual this fall. I originally heard this from my brother. I've subsequently heard it from the manager of an auto parts store that carries RV antifreeze. I went to my local Walmart to buy a couple of jugs today, and the shelves were bare. They were completely sold out of the pink stuff. Fortunately, my local Big R store had plenty, so I picked it up there.

I don't know if this news is based in fact or if it's just a rumor, but it may not be a bad idea to pick up a couple of jugs now before you end up in a bind!

Don’t need much. Just a pint in each drain. Blow out the lines. Worked fine here at 3 degrees F.

Well if there isn't a shortage now as soon as word gets out that there is then there will be.

Wasn't a shortage at our local Menards - got enough to do the Airstream and my coach recently with not a problem. They had both the -50 and -75 stuff.

I have heard that one of the big suppliers of RV antifreeze has left the business. I know that Camco has abandoned the marine supply side. The price is also increasing!

WHAT....Time for the Zon

But I bought 2gal two years ago and still have enough for this Winter.

I use it to displace the water where it is not where it was.

The one year we only blew out our lines with an air compressor, and didn't use antifreeze too, we replaced our water pump in the spring. With winter temps occasionally in the minus 20 F range, we need the antifreeze. Different areas of the country can do less, it depends on temps. There's not a blanket solution!

Gets cold here in WNY also...
But, I always include the WP when I blow out the system. SFSG

I did just that for a lot of years but I had a 5er that the low spot was 90 degrees elbow that was the lowest spot in the system. Water drained back into the elbow and froze and cracked the elbow. Now I blow out the lines and then added the antifreeze.

Maybe. IIRC, vodka freezes at -17*F.

i was just draining the lines, drain the WH, open both low point open faucets.. did the blow thing as well some years..

most of the time water in a elbow will expand and not crack them but you can never tell.. keep the air blowing for 5 to 7 mins with help push the water out so very little remains in places like 90's..

we pour about 3 oz in drains as well.. or you can suck or blow out the p traps. either way works.

I was able to get a few gallons no problems. If shortage is coming, I'd get it now while it's still there. Picked mine up last weekend for the "P" traps, just put her to bed for the winter yesterday....good for well below zero.

Anti-freeze

There was an entire pallet of RV anti-freeze at the Walmart in Durango, CO 12 days ago. I bought 4 gallons.

No shortage yet....
