parking space for a 34'

Can anyone tell me the dimension from the center of the rear axle to the rear bumper of a 34' trailer?
I'm considering purchasing a 34'er and thinking about the size of the parking space I would need. I already have a space at the end of my garage, but there is a small retaining wall that the rear of the trailer will overhang. There is a wheel stop behind the top of the wall that limits how much I can back in. I'm not sure if I can use that existing space without the front of the trailer sticking out to much. I would appreciate your help with this measurement.

A W, just measured my '94.

11' 6" is what I have from center of rear axle to end of bumper.

Just make sure you have enought clearance for the rear stabilizers and dump valves, fittings, etc...

Do you know that the 34'ers are actually a tad over 35'?

I found by searching the forum that they are 34'-11" center of ball to rear bumper. Could not find the axle spacing. There was none near by for me to measure.
Looks like the space will work. The trailer tongue will stick out in front about 5' beyond the corner.

1999 Airstream Excella 34’ for sale in Sterling, Virginia
The photos in the advertisement look better than the actual condition of the exterior, since they are not from recent times. This photo is at least a couple years old.


We are home after 12+ hours of driving 670+ miles to get it, but it was worth the trip. It was uneventful towing home and it tows great! I could tell it was heavier than the 25' when going uphill, but I got the same fuel mileage as when towing my 25'.

The only real blemish on the exterior is the clear coat is peeling all way around from the roof down to the windows and the decals need to be replaced. It actually looks pretty bad, so I have a project to attend to. I will be searching threads and asking advice. Maybe I will be looking for someone to do this work for me. I do not plant to polish it. A strip and new clear coat is the way I will go.

It has new tires, new brakes all around, and bearings repacked, all in August this year.

The interior is in better than average condition. It just needs a good cleaning and it will be ready to camp. But, the blue carpet has to go pretty soon. The appliances are working and look good, but are all the 15 year old originals.

We will clean the trailer up next week, and then head out for our honeymoon trip for a week or so. I anticipate a trouble free trip! We'll see how that goes!

Sounds great. Doesn't it weigh a lot more than your 25' though? Those things are just amazingly long!

Yes, it has 3,400 lbs heaver GVRW. The 3/4 ton truck did not notice the difference. I'm going back to the 1/2 ton truck. I have a new 2014 Silverado with the Maximum Trailering Package on the way. It is rated to tow the 34' at GVRW with maximum payload in the truck.

I had my first experience backing down the driveway in the dark. The backup lights would enter the driveway so far ahead of the axles I could not see the wheels as they left the road and entered the driveway. Had to get my DW to shine a flashlight to keep me out of her plants. Larger brighter flashlight is on my list of things to get.

Yes we will enjoy the additional space. Last winter we were in the trailer for one stretch 60 nights straight. The 25' was a little small. The downside of the additional storage is, instead of my list of things needed to get, my DW has a separate list.

Thanks for the link, I will be reading soon. We are cleaning the interior today! I'm off to the store for supplies! Someone, in another thread, suggested oven cleaner for the fiberglass shower. That will be my first item on the to do list (instructions from the boss)

Welcome to the '99 '34 Club!

As for appliances, the first thing I had to replace in mine was the convection/microwave. I've also replaced the motor in the furnace. And that's it! I've full timed in mine for over two years now, so everything gets used in it's season. If you plan on coming south, or SW, you might want to replace the FF with an Air Conditioner, see CWF's thread on that.

Thanks for that information on the appliances! I have read through CWF's thread on the AC install, as it was being posted. I just replaced the water heater in my 2000 Safari this summer, and the WH in the Excella looks worse that the one I replaced.

We usually go south only during the winter, so the extra AC most likely will not be necessary for us. If I come out to your area it would be in the spring. And that far from home, most likely I'll be pulling the 25' Safari, not the 34'. I will also avoid the desert crossings in the summer if possible.
