Need to wintertize in Eugene, Oregon ?

Hi-

We just moved from Southern California to Eugene, Oregon. I'm deciding whether we need to winterize our 2004 CCD and if so when.

Is there anyone in the area who has experience with the weather here?

It doesn't look like we'll get a real hard freeze, so if I blow out the water system and put RV antifreeze in the traps will we be OK?

Hi and welcome to the forums. it does get below freezing in Eugene - sometimes... It only take one hard freeze to wreck your lines. Blow out lines, antifreeze in traps and don't forget to drain the water heater.

If you have an LCD TV in your trailer - take it in for the winter - they don't like freezing temps either.

An ounce of protection is worth a pound of cure. An easy way to winterize is to go to a hardware store and buy a flexible (hose type) toilet supply hose and a gallon or two of RV antifreeze. Loosen the intake line on you water pump and thread on the toilet supply hose. Cut the other end off and stick it in the bottle of RV antifreeze. Turn the pump on and turn on the closest faucet to the pump. When antifreeze comes out turn it off and go on to the next. Work your way the the farthest away. Also flush your toilet and run the outside faucet and shower. Make sure you bypass your hot water heater or you will fill it up with antifreeze. Allow enough to run in each sink to fill the traps with anitfreeze. If you don't have a hotwater bypass Camping world sells one for less than $20.00 and it's a five minute install. Remember to drain your hot water heater.

which says the record Eugene low in September is 32, which doesn't need winterizing concerns but in October it can get down to 19 which means there is some risk if you don't take precautions.

Then you can look at the 'normal' and see that even in February the minimums don't usually go below 37 which says that the concerns are going to be when you have some unusual weather going through.

Then again, that's just measuring 1961 to 1990. Nobody knows, really, what the future weather will be.
