My wife and I live in Charlotte, NC (Plaza Midwood) and have a 2021 Globetrotter 27FB and previously we had a
Caravel 22FB. We have really struggled with finding indoor storage close enough that it isn't a hassle to pickup and return the Airstream each time we leave. We have a great place now where they store it indoors at an old warehouse but it is 35~ minutes away with no traffic from home and they are only there to pickup / drop off Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Just makes it that much harder to do unplanned weekend trips or work on the Airstream on weekends.
So I am exploring finding a small piece of land, with appropriate zoning, putting up some fencing and building a prefab deep (i.e. 40 ft) steel garage with large doors (12ft x 12FT) with four or five bays. Then provide electricity for keeping the batteries topped off and some fan driven ventilation in the garage for the hot summer months.
Curious on two things.
First, any ever done this before and if so any advice? Seems most RV and storage places around country at capacity so I have to think there is demand for it.
Second, anyone local to Charlotte that would be interested in renting a spot if I did it?
Thanks friends!
