1) Pushed AF through the toilet valve but worry about leaving AF in the toilet bowl itself and staining it. It's a Thetford plastic model in my AS. Is it really essential to leave some in the bowl?

2) My AS will sit in the cold and snow at my outdoor storage place. I'll put tire covers on. Is a vinyl cover on the AC unit necessary as well?

Thanks.
I just replied to your other thread I've heard folks on here will put some olive oil or some other cooking oil in the toilet to keep the seal from drying out. No need to keep antifreeze in the bowl.

And the A/C too, I've read where folks cover them, but I've also read there are many folks who just leave their Airstream parked outside all winter with no issues whatsoever.

Just make sure to winterize, and remove those batteries, keep them charged in a heated space if possible.

That just might be the most useful post on this thread.

You're following me. Or I'm posting in too many threads. ;-)

Hadn't heard the oil trick. Makes sense. Will give it a try. Thanks!

Greetings,
In an earlier post there was a comment regarding the Black Tank Flush. Just a comment... we were advised by an Airstream tech that this an item during the winterizing process often overlooked. He advised us to make sure we "blow out" the inlet to remove any residual water as it is check-valve that can hold water and become damaged if water should freeze inside. Doesn't need AF just make sure you blow it out.
It's now that sad time of the year for those of us who cannot head south. After a wonderful season visiting a dozen states we'll be pouring the pink stuff this week and spending the winter planning next season.
Safe travels

I drain it out into a bucket and put it down the drains. After draining I blow out the lines again. (You can use Less AF this way too.)

This also makes the system easier to de-winterize and prevents the AF taste permeating the water lines.
Thanks, that answered my question! Don't like the idea of any liquid sitting in my lines all winter. Not sure whay you would blow out the lines again though unless it's to make things cleaner for spring.

I want to do exactly as you have, only I did all the blowout ,. then realized my water pump may still have water( had already opened fresh water tank but nothing drained out). So I should run pump till its dry, then do blowout over again( or at least on for the line on fixture I use to exhaust the water from running pump.?)
Right now there is still water in the pump. If I run it dry( just long enough iso I no longer see water coming out, will it self prime in spring the next time we go to use it or will it have to be primed?

Thanks

This post is 4 years old! Yes, simply run your pump and then blow the lines again. The pump will put water into your lines and then blow that out and you should be good to go. I have been doing this since 2009 without any issues. I was told to do this by my local Airstream dealer since I didn't have the valve to access the pink stuff.

Aftermath,
Thank you so much for responding even though this is an old post. We are new to airstream and this is first winter in SC. Just wanted to get it right.
