DeHumidifier While in storage

Wondering what Airstreamers are using as a DeHumidifier while in storage. We are in extremely humid Houston TX.

Thanks,

Glenn

Same issue coming up for us in FL. We have a small GE dehumidifier we could use if we have 15-amp shore power. It allows us to connect a hose, so we’re thinking of putting the unit in the shower with a short length of hose into the shower drain from which water would flow into the grey tank. From there we could periodically drain the water, perhaps via a portable blue boy tank.

Dehumidifier Options

Thanks!

So far what I have been using are Damprids - hang one in the bathroom over the potty & I near the entrance of the AS.

If anyone has other options they use please reply.

Thanks again,

Glenn

I have a strong suspicion that the humidity in Houston and FL is so high that it will quickly overwhelm a Damprid solution unless one changes them out regularly. Assuming we find storage with 15-amp service, we're going to try the dehumidifier solution - unless someone here posts a better idea!

Our As is stored in an enclosed storage shed and before that we stored in an open but covered area. We too are in the Houston area and have never used a dehydrator and don't seem to suffer from any ill effects.

I’ve seen no issue with my trailer after three years in a totally enclosed storage facility also in Houston. I keep a couple of windows open as well.

Here's another idea: We're going to store our Airstream inside a building where the building itself is insulated and has a vapor barrier. (This is rented storage.) As a result, even though it's not climate controlled, the owner says we shouldn't need to worry about a dehumidifier. So, we'll probably just toss a couple pails of DampRid in there (just to be sure) and let it go for a month or two. Then we'll take a look at it, having them haul it outside so we can check it out and ensure there's no mildew. If we're concerned by what we see (or smell!) we'll have them hook our trailer up to 30-amp power and run the dehumidifier as we originally planned, feeding it into the shower drain so we have 39 gallons of capacity for water from the dehumidifier. They charge an extra $40 a month for the electric, so it's worth running this experiment.
