AS cover

I know covers are not recommended but is there one that will not wreck the clear coat?

It's not usually the cover fabric that is the problem. The wind deposits a layer of dust under the cover no matter how tight you try to keep it then the wind moves the cover around and the dust becomes an abrasive- think sandpaper-
if you must cover try to get a freestanding framed cover that doesnt touch the aluminum.

Where are the inventors. There is waiting market for the guy who comes up with a standoff system that will keep a cover a few inches off the shell and stand up to heavy wind, and will not damage the shell if it does fail. It probably would not have to enclose the entire Airstream, maybe the upper third.

I don't think that anyone will recommend a cover that actually touches the trailer's surface. As for a system that keeps the cover away from the surface of the trailer, make sure that there is sufficient support to deal with weight from snow or rain that may pool on the horizontal surfaces. I've seen some people use what amounts to a "hoop house" with some success.

My son left his car at "Twenty-nine stumps" while on deployment somewhere. He wanted to "save" the car paint.

Usual "prep"of fuel, oil, removed battey, removed tires, car in jackstands.. etc...

So, I suggested a "pre-wrap" before placing the "car cover".

It worked for him.

Oh, I suggested one of those big rolls of "stretch plastic" like they use for bundling several small boxes on a pallet for shipping. It resembles "Saran" wrap. The rolls are about 3' long. As you "roll" it out, you pull to stretch... Just a bit.. The car was clean, dry, fresh wax job.. He placed thin shipping blankets first for some "breathing" room as he rolled on the WRAP... He started on sides then did the top. He finished with a overall wrap. He also removed the wheels and plastic wrapped and stored them.

Next came the "car cover". It was a tight fit due to the extra material...

Result? Looked just like he left it upon return... 2 hours work to get things running... New battey, oil change, tires, etc.

For an AS, should work.. Talk to a boat yard.. They " prep" boats for storage with a heat shrink plastic wrap all the time in "winter areas"... Or, check YouTube.

Remember.."wrap that rascal"!!!!

O.K.....the answer really is to go south!!!!
Hopefully the winter will not be too bad....no cover is the strong
general opinion,thanks for the input..i will just ,with a soft brush,push the snow of the roof...maybe even tilt the trailer slightly towards the back so rain water runs of ???

An option I never see considered is the most common solution used by boaters.

I live next to the ocean, every boat gets taken from the water at the end of the season and typically heat shrink wrapped for the winter.

Every new boat arrives from the manufacturer shrink wrapped, even multi-million dollar ocean going yachts.

If it is good enough not to damage the gel coat on a high dollar yacht, why not an Airstream?

There are mobile companies doing it as service, or you can buy a kit to do-it-yourself, for example.

AS clear is NOT fiberglass/composite gelcoat. Gel is much thicker & is formulated to be immersed in water and resist scratches.

Our little boat stays all Summer with it's 'garage cover' flapping in the breeze without a mark.....wonder why?

My local marina charges $20 per linear foot for a boat, and we paid extra to have a door installed when wrapping our boat; there maybe cheaper services around. The doors probably wouldn't work for an Airstream as they are much smaller than an Airstream door.

That said, I am considering a hybrid, a hoop frame big enough to drive into, which is then wrapped, that could have a heat shrink door to allow access.
