Stabilizing Jacks for '77 Sovereign

I am needing any info on replacement of stablizing jacks for our 31ft trailer. Only one is broken and wondered if you can buy just one to replace. They are a scissor type manuel jack that operates by cranking w/ a tire tool. After dissassembling the broken jack, I found that just one part of the aluminum assembly is broken. Is it possible to replace just that part?

Yes, it is possible to just buy one jack. You can get them at almost any RV store and have them put on. You can try Vintage Trailer or Camping World on the web if you think you can put one on yourself. This is usually an easy fix. I had two replaced on my Argosy when I took it in for the new A/C. No problem.

The stabilizer jacks were typically BAL and are available from most RV parts sources as Juel indicated. You may find that you need the special BAL stabilizer jack for Airstream that has an extended drive that places the point where the handle attaches closer to the edge of the banana wrap. The first set of stabilizers on my Overlander didn't have these extensions (had Camping World install them before realizing that there was a special extended model available for Airstreams) -- I later had the BAL stabilizers with the extension designed for Airstream installed on my Overlander as well as my Minuet.

I just purchased 4 (2 sets) of 5000lb capacity for my 25' Tradewind for about $140 at a local RV supply. They had the 7500lb size also but were unnecessary for my needs. I had the broken aluminum units which I threw away, did not like the way they folded up from abuse. I believe the weight of steel is worth the advantage in toughness.

i agree w/ you about the advantages of steel but do these versions compromise my commitment to restore the trailer to original. do I need the aluminum ones in keeping w/ what I am replacing. What does Bal mean?

BAL is a manufacturer's name. They also sell Bal sand pads. Which are round plates which attach to the bottom of the stabilizers and make it so they do not sink into soft ground. I put them on my unit because I park on grass alot. The screws tend to get full of junk on the bottom of the trailer and also rust. Clean and lubricate the screws in the begining of the season and again before you put it away for the winter.

Bal is the brand name of your jacks.
It is your choice to keep it original or change to the steel jacks.
Lots of people do change them out because the aluminum ones get bent or torn up.
